This is a blog entry from a woman who is working at JSC as part of astronaut training, and involved with the damage assement on the orbiter.
I gotta admit, when I saw the picture of the damaged tiles, I had a sharp "oh, fuck" reaction, but reading her explanations and some of the very interesting stuff in the comments makes me feel much better about the crew up there and their chances for getting home safely.
