That's weird. I was never from Andrews, but people didn't seem to mind at all...

Maybe it's because I hung out there almost the whole damn time with Richard and Chad.

You're a wierd little man, my little transcribing Swede. :D

Okay, you're not that little.

I think some of it is the 1st floor RA (name tactfully omitted yet also given so that the object of my prime ire is obvious) seems to think that said person is 'moving in' on guys there, when said person has no intention at all of such. (Far as I can tell, said RA is the only person I've noticed visibly throwing herself at guys. But that's another snide comment entirely)

Interesting point of view. Maybe you should talk to someone from Andrews about it and, you know, get a different opinion.

The way I watched said RA treat her, or the mention of her today didn't leave me feeling entirely charitable.

But tell me your side and give me something different. I'm willing to listen to someone whose judgement I respect.

Gah, that's a yucky word. As for the rest.. I felt like the majority of the dorm was welcoming to me, even though I never lived there and didn't really come to be friends with anyone in dorm until my junior year.

For people who didn't want me there, I kept in mind that nobody likes everybody, just because you're friends with some people doesn't mean the entire dorm has to be friends with you. There were plenty of people in Compton and Babcock who I just couldn't stand, and we both had the "right" to be there.

That said, I'm sorry she feels this way. I hope it gets better.

There are no such thing as yucky words. Just words.

Besides, let's face it. Cunt is a really funny word if you think about it. It sounds like it should be an engine part. Or maybe part of a tractor. So you'd get guys in John Deere hats going into the Tractor Supply Company looking for spares for when their tractor broke down in the field.

As to the rest, things will probably work out, and I probably overreacted in frustration, but that's normal for me, right?

[identity profile] muttnik.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ahh! He said it again!

The origin of the word, according to Pam Frese, is an old english word for "hare." Which fits into a theme of naming women's body parts after things in nature. And theoretically yes, it's just a word. They're all just words. But every word has a symbolic meaning determined by the culture that uses it. And the symbolic meaning attached to THAT one makes me want to never hear it again.

It's funny that though you say it's just a word, you knew EXACTLY which one I was referring to with my comment. If they really are "just words," I could have been offended just as easily by "the," or "and," or "it." And to be honest, I am. You foul mouthed brute.

[identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. I do apologize. But really, were you expecting anything from me except blunt and occasional crudity?

[identity profile] cair-anam.livejournal.com 2003-11-14 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
I know I'm always espicially offended by "it".

Especially if the bastards have the nerve to add an "s" on the end....

THE HORROR!!!

I believe the only effective response I have to this is...

...

Ni!

*hands you a herring*

I think we both know how this must end.
