Jody Shelley Traded!

Holy crap.

The team lost last night, which kinda sucked, but despite not having the top center and top defenseman on the ice, they were right in there until the very end, so I can't be too upset.

But this...wow. Jody was the beating heart of the team for a long time. Not the best player, sure, by a long shot, but he had heart and he always reached out to people. He's the sort of guy who skates around tossing pucks to kids during practice when he's not in the drill, etx.

So, now he's in San Jose.

tattermuffin, ya'll take good care of him, OK? I want to be one of the people who gets to see him doing well on the day we retire #45 in Columbus.

Making room for Brule?

Possible, among other things...if Brule stays up. It's very possible he could be moved. This could be the start of some falling dominos.

The Jackets have no business retiring any number that's not 99 until there's a whole lot more stuff in the rafters.

And if he was the heart of the Jackets, he was that in an era of supreme disappointment and underachievement.

Maybe I'm overly sentimental, but he did a lot for the team and the community. If it's not officially retired, he at least deserves to be in a team hall of fame for the work he put in here.
