Birthday Pt. 0: The Prequel
Feb. 19th, 2008 11:34 pmSo, as things are wont to go in this town,
quoniam23 called and asked if I'd be up for him swinging by to hang out and do a bit of laundry. This was quickly agreed to.
After Scott actually arrived, Alex called and asked about dinner, and it was pointed out that my birthday is tomorrow, so we decided to hit Ze Outback for some steak and things. (Well, OK, mostly steak.)
After achieving a critical beefmass, and a surprisingly tasteful server who, on learning it was my birthday, just unobtrusively delivered a tasty dish of ice cream and a candle rather than a big messy production, we headed back to the house.
There I was greeted by an Amazon box for Alex which held a copy of the new No Reservations hardcover (for me), and 32 bars of soap (for Alex - apparently he decided to get Super Saver Shipping the weird way). Then, Scott unveiled our fate of the evening...
Hot Fuzz.
I'd always meant to see it in the theatre, on the theory of "Shawn of the Dead = Funny. Simon Pegg's Doctor Who appearance = Really Good! Simon Pegg + Explosions + rural Britain = Awesome?" Somehow, though, I never quite got to it. (Not to mention I always feel weird going to the movies alone.)
However, tonight, it was just us, the DVD player, and the seedy underbelly of God's Own Country. If you've never seen the film, I won't spoil anything, but I loved watching it and the ending damn near killed us all. Well worth a rental!
All this, and I got to keep the movie! Woohoo!
Big thanks to Alex and Scott for how my birthday started. :D Can't wait for this weekend to keep celebrating it. (I mean, c'mon, what ever happens on a Wednesday?)
