Sleep helps, as usual.
[livejournal.com profile] demeterschild spent the night here due to storms, and Steve threatening visceral bodily harm to me if I allowed her to drive the rest of the way to Dayton while the rather impressive snowfall was still coming down.

So, we got a rather nice dinner out, brought back some food for my sister, watched some Excel Saga, Iron Chef, and Nero Wolfe, and I then conducted her to the guest room and threw books at her so she'd have things to take to bed besides the cats. :D

Plan for today is to get her some breakfast, and perhaps help her do some last minute Steve-shopping before she leaves, then assemble myself to go back to Wooster in good order.

Dad and Mom went to church after taking Alison to the airport, so I shall sneak onto AIM for a bit here, then go.

Back in Wooster. It's good to be home.

Picked up lots of hand-me-down clothes from dad, including a nice leather jacket. Woot.

Also, finally got my Game Boy Advance back. Booyeah.

Got some comic books, did shopping with [livejournal.com profile] demeterschild before she left, life is good.

Review:

While in Comic Town today, picked up an issue of Tarot, by an indie company named BroadSword Comics. [livejournal.com profile] demeterschild kept poking at it until I decided to give it a go.

Pros:

Art is gorgeous, with a cover reminiscent of Dawn.
Booooooooobies.
Goth girls.
BroadSword is apparently an all pagan shop, so not only is there fairly accurate discussion of stuff, but a Q&A about paganism with a Wiccan and a few other pagans in the back of the book. Neato.
Story is amusing enough, though this issue is clearly filler.
Artists seem to enjoy playing with the book. :D Did this month's artist pictures in costumes.
The (female) artist/inkers seem to enjoy having lots of fun with the (sometimes quite exaggerated) female form. Drawn well, and proportionately. Mostly.

Cons:
Don't really understand too much of the characters
Story is -obviously filler-.
Writing doesn't really live up to the quality of the art, to my mind.
Not for younger readers. At all. Lots of nudity, lots of overt and innuendo sex references, and a passed out boyfriend getting foot-masturbated.

...okay, so having a girlfriend getting you off in a hot tub with her feet isn't -really- a con.

All in all, worth the 2.90 I paid for it. Might get it again if I have free cash and the cover looks interesting. (They sell prints in the back that come with free issues of the comic they're associated with. Not a bad catch.)

Siren? )
...it is entirely possible this a quiz more for women than men. :D Oh, well.

Other quick reviews:

The Ultimates 6&7 (can anyone hook me up with 8? Everyone's been sold out!): GOOD. Fantastic, really. A deep and interesting take on how marvel superheroes would work in the 'modern' world without all the backstory.

Truth 1: Amazing. A powerful and worthy addition to Marvel Canon, pulling a lot from real history. I likes. Must get the next issue when it comes out.

Armada 4: A far better intro of the Transformers to Earth than the TV show did. Woo!

Shonen Jump! (US) 1: Good. Neat to see the Japanese originals translated faithfully. And Yu-Gi-Oh that actually focuses on the relationships between characters and not how to play the fucking card game or dice game every .2 seconds is kinda nice. I like it. (Side note: [livejournal.com profile] doomflower, are you still playing the card game? If so, I got an exclusive Blue Eyes White Dragon holofoil card you might want for your deck. Lemme know and I'll bring it from columbus for you.)

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Damn. God. Damn. And the opening theme is addictive. Russian operataic with techno and bells.

Mmm. Russian.

I like it so much I decided to do some transcribing to get it out of my damn head.
