So, in between sleeping late because I set the wrong alarm last night, running into work, and almost twisting my ankle on some ice, I turned 23 today.

I got into work, and they gave me a huge slice of cake with a strawberry on top.

It helps.

This also makes me laugh on the inside.

Okay, you little fuckers.

Which one of the elves turned the Friday switch to 'INCREDIBLY SLOW'?

Huh? Which one?

Fess up. Or I get The Bitch-Tamer.

So, I'm older now.

Since I was born at 7:47pm, I'm in fact now exactly 2 hours and 37 minutes into being 23.

So far, it isn't bad. I found a wonderful Chinese place right under my nose (Why didn't anyone tell me how good Sue Min is? They're better than Wild Ginger! Majorly!) I got some books that I'd kept meaning to buy (the 2 latest Turtledove books), a bunch of officey dress shirts and pants, and a big fuckin' set of beautiful candle holders that are easily 2 feet tall and made of metal, done in an imitation Han style. My sister apparently found them somewhere in an antique mall.

One is also twisted around a bit so that the top part is slightly askew from the bottom rather than flowing perfectly down. I like that. It's a decent metaphor for me.

I got a decent chunk of money which will go into my bank account and probably be used for a few DVDs and bills, and two very lovely presents that I'm about to describe in more detail.

First is that I got to spend an hour on the phone before my parents and grandparents arrived talking to Lisa. It was a far ranging, fun, and generally wonderful conversation that made me smile the entire time, and had us both laughing a lot at things, with each other, and about life. It was amazing, and I have to once again say that I love you, Lisa. With all heart, self, and spirit.

Second was a bit more chance than anything. You see, my grandmother ordered all the shirts and stuff using measurements she had from just before when I graduated College. (That's just over 9 months now.)

Every single thing was too big, with 3 out of 4 shirts and 2 out of 3 sets of pants having to go back to get exchanged for a size down, at least.

As someone working daily to lose weight, I can't tell you how good that felt.

Little victories are a very good way to start being 23.
