Additional progress!
Aug. 3rd, 2008 05:13 pmFirebox lined with fire bricks, and the grates that I couldn't get to quite work for cooking work just fine as log grates to allow for ash to fall down onto the bricks to get out of the burn.
I also have one of the top dampers (the far left one) and the door just about finished, but I've run out of bolts...and not feeling like a 4th trip to the hardware store in 2 days. I'll go back tomorrow, probably. :D
I also found that the bottom legs aren't tightening down quite right - the hole for the 2nd bolt needs re-drilled, so that'll also be a "tomorrow" project. Still and all, we're really, really close, and it feels great.

Your moment of Zen
Aug. 3rd, 2008 07:55 pmDave and Crystal stopped in after their trip to the Dublin Irish Festival to check out how my progress on the smoker was going.
Dave brought Marmite with him.
Alex couldn't even smell it without going green. Crystal made a face that I'd describe best as "Squamous."
Dave didn't think it was so bad, and then it was my turn. A little bread with the marmite spread onto it.
Really? Honestly? It tastes kinda like someone found a way to melt bratwurst into a butter-like-substance.
I had another piece of bread for the hell of it. Not something I'd get every day, but not bad at all, really.
