Something else I've been thinking about:

I'm really not sure I should stay as the Maverick wiz at M3. To be totally honest, I'm not sure I should stay in any staff position. I've been limping a bit since before Christmas, but since I got back to school, I just haven't been able to generate any enthusiasm for the job, which isn't fair to the players or the other staffers. I can barely remember to log into it, where once I was on it as much as possible. I think something in me is just a little drained out, and with the additional demands in my life right now, I'm having trouble filling it.

On the other hand, I don't know if anyone would want to do the job, if I left. It's bad to have a burning out admin, whether he enjoys the faction or not. It's worst to have an admin who would be unhappy about being in that position.

I'm not sure what to do at the moment. Part of me says I should wait to get back into my school routine before I make a big decision, because I might well change my outlook when I'm comfortable. The other part of me wonders if I should have looked at this option earlier, and I really don't know which to follow.

This was gonna be limited access entry, intended to get advice before I let too many know, but I think it's better to make it public on reflection. The people this may affect deserve to see it. I shouldn't try to hide something like this. It wouldn't be honest.

Talk to Shaun about it, I'm sure he'll understand. If you're burnt out, then...you're burnt out, you know? It happens sometimes.

I kind of hope you're not leaving altogether, though.

Ditto those sentiments. Burnout is bad, especially in the admin. From what I gather, there's been a few bloodlettings at M3 in the past because too many admin allowed their burnout to progress too far. So take a vacation, Pisces. I woudln't want to see you get fired.

By the same token, if you really don't want to do adminning anymore, quitting now is far better than quitting after another six months of brain-frying.

That's a good question indeed... If you're burning out, it'd be better to get out before you get to the point there it can hurt you permanently in that respect. Try asking around and seeing if there's anyone who wouldn't mind picking it up.

Two comments.

One, deliberate. Do not make a snap decision.

Two, the MUSH is bigger than any one man. It will endure irregardless of your decision.

You just really need to decide what is fun for you - there are points when you have to look at what you see your obligation to the MUSH as being, and at what point you need to start considering if you can fufill that obligation, or if you need to start looking after yourself so something that you do enjoy doesn't turn into something that you regret.

We've got some new blood coming in - certainly one of them might be willing to take on the position if you leave. So don't worry so much about everyone else, and just consider what you need to do to be happy personally.

Trouble fitghting off burnout in the Mavs? Hm...I can dig it.

I was pretty happy to see that I would be working with you as Wizard for a bit. I've always thought you did a great job with the Masters.

I was pretty disappointed that Aries dropped, especially right after he'd started making policy posts and getting down to business in the faction.

Like I said the other day, I don't see you online as much as I used to, but I knew that it was because you were getting busy with life stuff. It happens to everyone.

And it would be really sad to see you leave staff at this point, since you're both a good friend and a great staffer.

If your problem is with the Mavs in particular--talk to me--we'll work something out. At least I've kinda been TRYING. If your problem is with time and staffing in general... let it slide. Life goes on, ya know? And maybe you'll stop being burned out after a while and want to pick up the mantle again....and maybe not. Only you know when it's time to call it quits.
