It's snowing to beat the band out there. I love it.

Unfortunately, with how the roads are between here and my grandparents, it probably means I will not be seeing them today.

But that's not what's bothering me.

I talked to my grandmother when she called to let me know the roads up there are really terrible, and...well...she sounded -old-.

My grandma and granda are each older than 70..heck, I think they're nearing their 80s though I've never asked, and yet....they've never sounded old before.

When I realize that no, they'll probably not be around too many more years...

Cold and sad thoughts for a cold Sunday morning.

My Papa has been in the hospital this past month, which is the reason I'm stuck in California... he looks so ill, so old, we almost lost him twice, but he stuck through and is still fighting. It breaks my heart to see him stuck in a rehab, with tubes and things...

But the one thing that makes it all better is when I walk in the room, the smile he gives me, he reaches for my hand and just squeezes it. That's the only thanks I need, it makes me forget the rest.

I know how you feel. My grandpa died over break. I got back just as he slipped into a coma, which he didn't wake up from. And well, he was 75, but he never seemed that way before until that day. Same with my Grandma. Helping her through that first month, she was old. She was lost. And, that was so hard to see.

On the plus side though, I finally feel like I've given something back to her. Something that equals all of what she's given me through the years.
