Quite possibly the cutest thing ever.

Computers playing RPGs about human computer nerds. So disturbing. So cute.

Also in the cute department: New G5 iMac. Disturbingly shiny.

It's pretty dang spiff.

Heck, if I could run City of Heroes on a Mac, I think I'd consider switching.

I gotta admit - I was pretty iffy on the original gumdrop iMac. Thought they were goofy and ugly. The iLamp was cool, though - and so is this.

The original gumdrop was interesting just because it was pretty different from anything that anyone (even Apple) had tried before.

iLamps I was eh on until I actually used one and decided I liked it. These I like right off the gate.

My only beef is that screens are 1) the most expensive part, and 2) either the most fragile part or 3) the part that needs the least upgrading. Sometimes I yearn for the days of the LC and LCIII. You could get a monitor to fit your budget, and upgrade the computer independantly. To battle the old 'I can build a PC with only 3 dead badgers and use my old monitor HURR' arguement, you'd have to look at the Pmac G5 or something used. But at least we still have the eMac for the real low end.

That and the slot-loading CD drive I've got mixed feelings on. Yeah, they're cool, but you'll always come across the minicd (Bionicle, anyone?) that will mean someone getting it stuck in the drive.

That and one thing the iLamp has as an advantage is the cables in the base. While this iMac will still swivel up and down, rotating left and right means the entire computer, and all its umbilical cords.

Would I get this for myself? Probably not. I've got enough legacy stuff and used parts that I'd rather some expansion, even if I end up not using it. Would I get this for Mom or Dad? Yeah. That's the target audience.

One thing to note, with a smirk. Imagine doing tech support for these in a mixed computer environment. You thought it was bad with users confusing the monitor for the computer before...
