Jul. 5th, 2005 03:14 pmWell, I didn't really write much this holiday weekend, but I assure you that things happened.
-Celebrated both Lisa's birthday and our anniversary with large BBQs and friends. This was VERY good. Lisa
also found new fishnets and tennis shoes with skulls on them. :D
-The new grill is a thing of might and beauty. 50 pounds of cast iron and ceramic goodness, and the cooking we've done has been incredible. Well, OK, Alex has done most of it. I've done some burgers and about half the cooking on some brats, but it's all been good.
-Spent probably far too much time in CoH, but it was fun (mostly.)
-Worked a deal with a guy off Bartertown that will give me 3 more tac squads, fill out 2 Assault squads, and I'll have some spare marines to give to Chris and Jaymie so she can learn how to paint them, and Chris can learn how to get all shooty.
-Seriously debating getting into the new 'Nids.
-Seriously debating a subscription to White Dwarf.
-Got a nice pair of sandals to help with some blisters on my feet. Wish I could wear them to work.
-Almost slept through my alarm today!
With the exception of my very disrupted sleep schedule, and a lunch on Friday that didn't work out quite the way we'd hoped, it was a very good weekend, spent with friends and loved ones.

Date: 2005-07-06 02:56 am (UTC)That, and you can go bananas with them. Just don't be that guy that thinks a 12 armed hive tyrant looks cool.
Cause it doesn't.
No, seriously.

Date: 2005-07-06 04:18 am (UTC)I'm thinking of two ways I could go - one would be a speed/backup army with a winged / close combat Tyrant, genestealers, Leaping gaunts, rippers, some gargoyles, and maybe a double-venom cannon Carnifex or two as a heavy support; OR maybe go with a ranged Tyrant, some guards, a good batch of warriors, and then 2 close in carnifexes, 2 genestealer broods with a Broodlord, and a shitload of spinegaunts and some termagaunts to back the 'fexes up.

Date: 2005-07-06 01:24 pm (UTC)Also, ALWAYS give a carnifex a ranged weapon. As slow as they are, it's nothing for people to run away when it becomes a threat. Also, going out first, they tend to deploy in response, so it'll find most stuff is out of striking distance.
Winged Tyrants are cool, but they need back up that can keep up with them. A large hormaguant unit or ravener brood works. Winged warriors are also really nasty.
I personally have no experience with gargoyles. They just cost too damned much to build a unit of. Statistically, they look the bomb-diggity-omb-balomb.
The best thing to aim for, in my experience, is to make sure your CC units haul ass, and have lots of them. With bugs being the nastiest CC army, a lot of firepower will go into trying to deny that sweet, sweet assault phase.

Date: 2005-07-06 03:06 pm (UTC)Either way, the army I'm thinking of will get into CC, and do it nastily. I'm just thinking of ways that I can give some covering/support fire, and especially to do a bit of anti-armor as needed.

Date: 2005-07-06 04:08 pm (UTC)As for armor, never underestimate the power of lots and lots of rending attacks. :)
But armor is and will always be the thorn of the bugs hide. Their most powerful gun, the venom cannon, has a rule that it doesn't penetrate.

Date: 2005-07-06 04:44 pm (UTC)Regen is hit or miss. For every wound the creature has, you roll a d6. Every 6, brings back one wound. and unlike Old One Eye, once it's dead, it's dead. I haven't played with it, but I do like the other stuff to make him a T7, W5, 2+ save guy. But he still takes an ass handing against powerfists hidden in large groups.

Date: 2005-07-07 03:24 am (UTC)We'll see - if I play the money and my cards right, it's entirely possible that I could have 'nids by late August.
