bzarcher: A Sylveon from Pokemon floating in the air, wearing a pair of wingtip glasses (By Shay Caron)

So, I found out my parents have taken one more step towards becoming Crazy Cat People.

As you know, that status begins when the cats outnumber the humans in the house. It takes true and terrible form when that number has reached double the humans in the house, and a dark and forboding madness of fur and tails when the humans to cats ratio is expressed in exponents. (ie: h^2, or worse h^3 = c^1)

Apparently, on their search for a grand and touching way to celebrate their anniversary, my parents decided to go to Dayton. (I'll let the Ohio natives pause and reflect on this one.) While there, they explored several places of food, art, and shopping, including a pet store at the Fairborne mall. (Noelle, is this the mall you used to work at?) Perhaps predictably, they ended up stopping to look at and play with the kittens. As my sister explained it to me, second hand, my mom was immediately smitten when a pale Siamese plopped out of a kittenpile and immediately jumped up into her lap. Despite her protests of how the house didn't need another kitten at the moment, they did enquire about the price of adopting him.

Rather than the standard $50 fee, this particular kitten was a rather high triple digit number to adopt. I'll be good and simply say over $200, but less than $600. My mom had a bit of sticker shock, and told my Dad it was OK, that they could leave the kitten, and then they went to dinner and a night's rest.

Sometime early Saturday morning, my dad went to the pet store and, as you might suspect, bought the kitten.

From my sister's reports, the kitten spent the entire drive back to Columbus in my mom's arms, and didn't seem inclined to leave them often since they got home. At this point, he hasn't been named yet (I suggested "Toaster", which Dave and Alex immediately approved as a good and worthy name), but I haven't actually met the wee beastie yet. I suppose a trip over there at some point is going to occur, one way or another.

Beyond that, today was laundry, soccer, cooking, and painting, with some excursions to the grocers, Guardtower to drool over a few things we can't afford, and then for a bit of frozen custard before watching Edmonton get some life back into this series, just as I predicted they might.

So far, not a bad weekend, and my OD phone's behaved nicely.

Finally, I give you a boxcat.

Boxcat!

My cat got stuck in the curtains today while trying to get to the window.

He, of course, blamed me entirely for this development.

Was there a reason for the unusual adoption price? Is it purebred or something?

I found your LJ through [livejournal.com profile] las's journal and loved your Dalek/IPod icon. Hubby and I are huge DW fans and we are two of those crazy cat people, - 4 cats versus 2 humans, though we have decided that 5 is one too many. :) Cute kitty!

Is there an exemption for one person and two cats?

One person with 2 cats can be argued as giving the cat a social partner for when you're not home, but if you go to 3 or 4 I think it's pushing it.

Ferrets can at least be combined into ferret-chucks for your own protection if things get too deep.
