The Cutty Sark's been severely damaged by a fire set aboard her. (link)

Just a random bit of news I caught off Google this morning, but a bit depressing all the same. The fact that she was in the process of being restored makes it even more tragic - the tone of the article doesn't say it, but I can't imagine the chances for being able to preserve her and complete the restoration are terribly good.

The BBC article I read was a bit more hopeful. They had removed her masts and about half her planking for restoration and one of the people interviewed said that the damage to the planks still on board wasn't as bad as they'd feared.

It's still not a good day for the ship and a major setback to the restoration, but it could have been a lot worse.
