Hmm.

So, I went to a conference today called Angelbeat - they're the place that introduced me to Ironport last year and lead me to spend $140,000 of someone else's money, so I'm really surprised the company sent me back this time around. :D

I did actually get some good information this year (and perhaps a proposal to spend another large sum of money for good results, but that's later after I write it up formally. And a word in the ear of a Microsoft SE about "I need tools for a massive Vista desktop migration before my upper management pushes the issue, please", but that's planning for what I have a strong indication is coming.)

What else I got, beyond some nifty free swag (including a lego blade center, which is just way too cute, and will be living in my office shortly) was a 1GB iPod shuffle.

At first, I was like, "Wow, I won something!" And then it was "But I have a 30GB iPod. Oh, well...eBay! Or Christmas for someone."

But now I'm looking at the packaging and I'm being seized by a spectacular amount of tech-lust. I want to see just how well it works. I can't see the USB port on it. I want to know where it is.

I am in trouble.

Edit:

I am weak.

But it's so nifty.

God damn that's cool.

I've got enough techno-geeks around me that I get to see all the models. :)

I keep away from them (unless I can afford and have planned to buy them) because I think I've got a genetic weakness to Apple packaging. My brain can very easily paint a picture where I walked into an Apple store like the one at Easton or the Pentagon Mall one we visited, and I walk out with $2500 of debt and a Macbook Pro. :D

Still...oo. Nifty!

Wow, it's saying full charge, too. That was fast. Might leave it on the charger a bit longer to be safe, but neat.

'Upgrading' to Vista now? But the first service pack hasn't even come out yet!

No choice. Our executives want us to move to Vista (and our Microsoft support agreements also push us in that direction). In fact, our CIO wanted us to go to Vista within a month of it's release and we've been digging in our heels for the past year saying "No!", but they're bringing a lot of leverage in to say "YES!"

So we want to find ways to minimize the impact as much as we can.

I liken it to being willing to step in front of a speeding car, rather than standing there and letting the wrecking ball hit you.

I have a 20-gig iPod and one of the new shuffles. I was shameless enough to ask for the shuffle for Christmas even though I already had the regular iPod (and have had it for three years, actually). But it's tiny! I can wear it to the gym!

My problem with the old one that kept me from using it for more than just listening to in the car was really that women's clothing SUCKS ASS in that it doesn't tend to have real pockets--pockets big enough so that I could keep keys, wallet, cell phone, pen, AND regular-sized iPod on me. When I got the original iPod I was still wearing men's clothes (with man-sized pockets!), but over the last few years I've finally given in to wearing clothes that fit, and I've sacrificed pocket space as a result (or any pockets at all on my workout clothing!). Cue cute clippy clippy things!

Yeah, Ard suggested I clip mine to my work lanyard or onto the fight strap of my jersey when I skate, and it works -really- well on the lanyard, so far.

uber-jealous. You have two really nifty gadgety-iPod-thingy-s. I have no iPods, of any make or style. However, I do have a cassette player in my car that I use for blasting showtunes (especially when I am around cars that are blaring their obnoxious hiphop/rap).

...now isn't the time to mention my car has satellite radio, is it...

*flee!*

Eurgh. Too true, too true. I don't envy you.

Even though I'm probably aiming to end up in that sort of position some day.

What, leaping in front of speeding cars? :D Don't do that. It's not healthy. ;D
