bzarcher: A Sylveon from Pokemon floating in the air, wearing a pair of wingtip glasses (Fexicon)

That 2500 point 'ard boyz tournament has caught our eye, here at Rancho Tyranide, so after talking a bit with Scott, Dave, and Alex, I decided to whip a list up.

This is a rough draft, but the nice thing about it is that it's pretty much playable from my current models, with some repainting and a little retooling. (Which, y'know, I need to do anyways...)

Shame I can't pack extra FOC slots, but it's pretty nasty as is.

hey Heat Man it's been ages but i'm a 40k geek my self and this list looks vicous! You'd give my own imperial guard a hard time and I got heavy weapons and swarm control with my guard. Hell where are you anyway i'd love to feed your ni.. err play with ya. :D

Heya! Haven't heard from you in awhile. :D How goes?

I'm still in Ohio.

I have a feeling that my large template blasts may well help with thinning down the swarm control, too. :D

good I built up an 3000 + Cadian Imprial guard force. I also like to drop pie plates too! :D But seriously that's a nice looken nid army. Too bad I'm in BC now and loving it we're in the sticks but there's a 20 person + warhammer club.

Intersting list. Kinda heavy on the range, which strikes me as kinda odd for 'Nids. Also, needs more WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH.

Thing is, while I can make the tyrants into CC monsters, or the fexes, they're so slow it's really easy to get around them.

OTOH, I can start shooting large templates and tankbusting VC shots at 36", and when you get inside of 24", each of those dakkafexes has 8 devourer shots that reroll misses -and- reroll wounds. That's squad-munching right there, and if I follow it up with a 'stealer or Hormagaunt charge? Bam.

Edit: Only exception's the flying tyrant. He can be a fast -and- nasty CC beast, but I'm trying a shooty version to see if he can be a fast-response squad killer for things like Tau Stealth Suits, sister Retributors, or Eldar Fire Dragons.

I'm just burning doin' the Neutron Dance.

Stealthies are probably going to be a lot lower on your not-nice-people list given that FOC.

At that scale, I'm contemplating buckets of Vespid. Three full squads? Who knows.

Other meditation: Multiple Ionheads.

The Ionhead can still only do, what, 3 wounds at a time? When most of the TMCs have 5 or 6, it's a risk I'll have to take.

Vespid...ooh. That could get fun. :D

The first rounder for Ohio is at the Guard Tower, second round's in Cleveland a few weeks later. Think we could tempt you? :D

The Ionhead would be an alternative to the Railhead's main weapon, which does only one wound at a time from slightly further out, and at somewhat greater damage. That you have a lot of multi-wound models is the logic behind this.

And, sadly, there's no reasonable way I can have 2500 points anytime soon. :(

I'm not sure what I think of it yet. I can say this. Heaven help you when you run into that one Marine player that has a raging hard-on for plasma weaponry.

I never saw my Tyrants and Carnifexs die so fast in my life. And next was the rest of the synapse creatures. :P

I do like the use of Raveners. However play testing may have you combine them into one group. Maybe not. I've had the ups and downs of both possibilities.

Either way, I need to finish my Chaos list that was...19 or 21 models (can't remember which) EACH terminator was like..115 points. Hell, each terminator was a match for many HQ guys.

Maybe I'll work on them some today...hrmm...

From: [identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com
I like the two groups of Raveners if for no other reason than if I see weak flanks, I can use them, screened by gaunts, to exploit them.

Besides, as I proved when I did face a plasma hardon at an RTT...if he focuses on the carnifexes and lets my 'stealers charge him? I usually still win.

How many wounds did the termies have? My one worry with sinking so much into each model (like with my Deathwing army) is if they can't stand up to AP1 or close combat with power weapons/rending/characters. If I was using a CC tyrant, attacking at say, WS7, I8 with 7-8 power weapon scytal attacks that each did 2 wounds because of implant attack, I might charge him into a squad of big, slow, expensive termies because the Tyrant only costs about 300 points, and if I can take out 3-4 termies he's made his points back nicely, and if I get really lucky and take the squad out? Even better.

From: [identity profile] flying-landon.livejournal.com
I think two. But really, I'd worry more about AP 1 than Close combat. You have to realize that on top of being a terminator, each one has a Chaos spawn, which is really cheap wounds and attacks.

But really, the whole purpose of the army was to make something as small as possible, more as a project than anything. I bought the models when I worked at GW so it was like...super cheap to buy. I think maybe 70 bucks.

The strategy behind this army really is to win by getting into CC with troops (Multiple units at once if possible), and trying to avoid HQ and Elites if possible. If all works well, I'll win just by having more points left one the table. If not... .well, I think it'll still be fun to play. :)

From: [identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com
Fun to play is always the big key goal. :D

I forgot about the spawn, honestly! I really don't know Chaos stuff that well because the only guy I play against regularly who uses it doesn't use his Chaos army that often.

They're mostly like Marines +10.

My big Chaos army is an all sonic Emp. Children army. Which means my basic marine has an assault 2 / heavy 3 bolter. Almost twice as expensive as a normal marine, but bigger gun and fearless.

And the terminators are horrific machines of pain and death. Moreso than normal termies.

Date: 2007-08-25 03:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com
All the more reason to try and drop them from range, I guess.

Date: 2007-08-25 04:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] flying-landon.livejournal.com
True. But they aren't exactly friendly from range. It's still trying to blow up a terminator. The ones with sonic weapons count as standing, so basically they're assault 3. Plus there's always deep strike.

But it's a trade off. Marines are already one of the smaller armies, with individually high value. Chaos is slightly smaller with slightly high single model value.

However, I'm REALLY curious to see what happens to them, with the next book, now that marines have access to a number of the Veteran Skills that made Chaos footsloggers unique.

another thing I wonder if you'd have any advise for making a Compenative(sp) Guard Army? I'm curious given how vicous your nids look here :) Any help be welcome we got some new nids players comming and guys with hardons for Deathwing armies x.x round here.

Date: 2007-08-26 01:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bzarcher.livejournal.com
Unfortunately, I've never actually played Guard. :(

Best advice against 'nids is lots of templates and lots of AP1 weapons.

From: [identity profile] quoniam23.livejournal.com
I however, have played Guard for a while. Any specific questions? Or would you like some general advice?

Also, Matt, the list looks pretty decent, but kinda low on model count for 2500 points. My first run at an Eldar list has more models, which is surprising given that I'm only using 10 guardians. The rest are all Black Guardians *coughAvengerscough* and some Aspects, etc.

aside from putting melta guns and plasma guns in my ranks ya, i tend to run an org like this

hQ

2 heavy weapon units attached to it

3 havy support mix of tanks depending on the mission.

2 to 3 storm troopers

full sized normal platoon

one armored fist.

I got some sents, a hound and enough new minis to make another full platoon.

Also anti termie advise would be love I'm sick of death wing.

How big of a list are you looking at? 2.5K for an 'Ard Boyz tourney, or just in general? Are you tailoring for DW and Nids or just in general? Do you use/would you like to use any Doctrines?

From: [identity profile] jetfire99.livejournal.com
MAn this is a late reply but i'm looking for about a 2000 point balanced list for general commer and i'm using the cadian doctrins from the guard codex which seems to work well with how I like to play.
