Welcome to the basement! Population: You.
Sep. 19th, 2007 07:12 pmSo, I got home and said "Hm. Something smells like burned out wires..."
Go upstairs and "Oh! It's my monitor." She flickers, she fritzes, and she doesn't get signal.
...and the warranty expired in April. Shit.
I could lug a 17" crt up from the basement, or I could just buy a replacement on newegg.
...hell, with some of these sales, I could buy 2 replacements, and be paying not that much more than I did for the original damned thing...
Edit: Thank goodness for the PC in the basement and newegg. Should have a replacement monitor by Friday/Saturday.
Oh - did I mention we're dumping Wide Open West?
Turns out that:
A) Dish Network is getting NHL Network in HD
B) Dish Network has a hell of a lot more HD coverage than WoW
C) Dish Network is going to do NHL Centre Ice in HD!
D) Since AT&T owns Dish, and I work for AT&T, I get a sizable discount...and expedited install!
DSL will be installed Friday, Dish on Monday. I have some work from home days banked, so I'll just work from home both days and take my "lunches" when the installers show up.
Once they're done, we'll have 6.0 MB DSL (we're about 500 feet from the node in our area, as it turns out), the top tier Dish network programming package, sports pack, HD channels, and an AT&T phone line w/ local service and the bare minimums long distance (required for my employee discount), and we'll be paying about $40 a month less than we were paying WoW for 3.0 MB cable internet, the digital and a much smaller HD package.
I'm feeling pretty good about the decision to swap over, all things considered.
