Since [livejournal.com profile] ijikeru reccomended a couple of Marrillon tracks to me this morning, I give you some of what I've been listening to that's new.
Apoptgyma Berzerkma's remix of VNV nation's Mourn is awesome for dark, gituar heavy stuff.
Incubus Succubus' Vampyre Erotica, what I'm listening to at the moment is notable for a great strings background that ties the piece together.
I know I always listen to a good bit of Lorenna McKennitt, but for some reason the live in Paris version of The Old Ways and The Highwayman have been on my list a lot. Good stuff.

What've you guys been listening to?

Jimmy Eat World is an all-around good band: I bought their CD when I came and visited you, [livejournal.com profile] bzarcher though I've had several MP3s for a while. The stuff that doesn't get radio play is just as good.

Andrew W.K. also put out an excellent CD. There's no weak tracks on the album -- all of them are high energy, fun songs.

For music to grind cigarettes into your arm to (and hey, who doesn't, if LJs are any indication), Stabbing Westward is always a good bet. "Angel" and "So Far Away" are two of my favorite songs, just like "Haunting Me" and "Waking Up Beside You".

Rammstein -- you can't go wrong with them. KMFDM's newest CD, Attak, is fabulous: "Sleep", the closing song on the CD, has become one of my favorite KMFDM songs. Anything VNV Nation is good, but I think their current CD, futureperfect, is slightly weaker than the previous one, Empires. Empires, of course, was absolutely stellar; and futureperfect is not bad at all.

The Catherine Wheel is an underappreciated band. Chrome was a fine effort; "Delicious" is one of my favorite pop songs, and always ends up on my playlist when I make custom CDs. Sponge's "Plowed" and "Molly" are also good driving songs.

Elvis vs. JXL, "A Little Less Conversation" and Nelly's "Hot in Herre" have earwormed me completely.

Other than that, "Let's Go" by Rancid.

Been indulging in the guilty pleasure of Hawkwind, especially "Elric the Enchanter," "Song of the Swords," "Masters of the Universe," and "Standing at the Edge." Ordered the Live Chronicles CD from England the other day, but it hasn't gotten here yet.

Although I just found a new Bruce Dickinson (of Iron Maiden fame) song from the .jp release of Chemical Wedding. If you like lyrical hard rock, I recommend Bruce heartily. It really helps that he's also got a Masters in Literature (specifically British Romantic, iirc). [livejournal.com profile] ardaniel also turned me on to Counting Crows a couple of weeks ago, which is cool.

1) the music of the spheres

2) the lovely noise my neurons make

3) The usual suspects: Rush, They Might Be Giants, and Marillion. Though a lot of the former two have been getting skipped over as "not bouncy enough." I'm guessing Marillion hasn't because of the novelty value.

4) The album "Sticks and Stones" by New Found Glory; "Provisions, Fictions and Gear" by Moth, to a lesser extent. Also Patrick Rondat and Persephone's Dream.

5) Individual songs that are sticking with me:

"Kung Fu Fighting"; cover by Tom Jones and remix by the Foo Fighters
"Total Eclipse of the Heart," by Nikki French
"Listen to Your Heart," "Dangerous," and "She's Got the Look" by Roxette
"Bust a Move" and "Magic Tower"; Kitty-N's theme from Bust a Groove 1 and Comet's theme from Bust a Move 2, respectively
"Eyes on Me" by Faye Wong (IIRC), from the FF8 soundtrack
"High and Up" by the Damn Yankees
"Don't Fear the Reaper" by the Blue Õyster Cult
"She Drives Me Crazy" by the Fine Young Cannibals
"Come On Eileen" as covered by Save Ferris
"Summer Girl" by Type O- (the long version)
