Feb. 11th, 2008 09:56 pmSo, CNN has a neat tool to let you see fundraising in your state for the Election.
"OK", says I, "Let's see what's up."
Dems is about what you'd expect: Obama at about $800k (pretty evenly distributed with spikes in Cuyahoga, Franklin, and Hamilton counties), Clinton around $750k (ditto) , Edwards with about $450k (mostly from down near the WV border), and then a sharp drop leading to Mike Gravel at $1,500. March on, you old soldier.
Republicans is...um...
1. Mitt Romney - $1.5 million dollars (WTF? Somewhat more interesting - over $750k of that came from Hamilton County / Cincinnati. Wow.)
2. Rudy Gulliani - $750k (hey, I guess he did actually campaign somewhere outside of NYC)
3. McCain - $325k
4. Ron Paul - $309,191? WHAT THE FUCK.
Pretty much every county in Ohio without a major city (ie: farmland) gave him at least $2,000 in donations.
That's...
Um.
God, What the fuck? I think we manage to be Ron Paul's "Biggest fundraisers" by that standard, and I want to throw up a little in my mouth just for typing that.

Date: 2008-02-12 03:29 am (UTC)Paul has done very well on the internet, probably as the standard bearer for libertarians in the Republican party, some of who may be learning that they can't get elected as libertarians. I'm not sure if we're his peak, but he's done very well in fund raising and has a hard core of supporters who are true believers. So yes, he's still there though I doubt if he'll even be allowed to speak at the Republican National Infomercial.

Date: 2008-02-13 08:48 pm (UTC)Hamilton County is also one of the very few place in the United States with a comprehensive "healthcare for all" plan. Feds take notice! Leave it to the counties! Cincinnati is oddly enough organized along the lines of "what side of town" and "what parish in the aforementioned side."
Dayton is -far- more liberal. Cincinnati is the place where -while Jerry Springer was for a time the mayor- Larry Flynt was repeatedly taken to count on obscenity charges.
