Foote "surprised" by trade.

Bullllllllllllllllllllshit.

You don't refuse to budge on the terms for a contract extension, even when the team raised the amount offered to you twice, refuse to play out the rest of the season and go back to negotiations in the offseason, and insist on a trade if you're not resigned by the trade deadline and then say you're "surprised" at getting traded.

"I'd be happy to come back to Columbus if I can't get re-signed in Colorado."

Y'know what? Stay the fuck out, you fucking quisling. You've made it very clear how much you 'loved' this town.

I read that this morning. I imagine Howson has a different story. Good riddance to a highly paid underacheiver.

Everything I've heard from radio, other disgrace reporters, and Howson's press conferences basically say it went like this.

**2 weeks before deadline**

Howson: "Adam, you've been a great leader in the room, and we want to keep you here."
Foote: "Fantastic! I want 2 years at 4 million each."
Howson: "You have to understand that's above what we consider your market value to be. Would you accept 2 years at 3 million?"
Foote: "Let me talk to my agent and take a day to think about it."

**Couple days later**

Foote: "I'm sorry, I still feel like I need 4 million."
Howson: "Well, can we compromise and say 3.25 a year, and some bonus incentives if we make the playoffs?"
Foote: "Can you send me details of the incentives and we'll talk?"
Howson: "Sure."

**Couple days later**

Foote's Agent: "These look pretty good, but we still feel 4 Million would be more appropriate."
Howson: "Umm...look, I'm trying to work something else out here to help the team, but Adam is someone we want to keep. What if we kept the same incentives but raised the base pay to 3.5 million?"
Agent: "I think that sounds like a good deal. Let me go back to Adam.

**Foote's "maintenance day" when the Dispatch reported he'd probably be doing an extension**

Howson: "OK, I've got everything ready for you here...3.5 million, all the incentives we talked about, 2 years."
Foote: "I changed my mind."
Howson: "Motherfucker says what?"
Foote: "It's got to be 4 million base."
Howson: "....right. Look. What if I told you I'm working on getting someone out of Tampa Bay that might push us into the playoffs?"
Foote: "That's great! But I still want 4 million."
Howson: "OK. What if we agreed to come back to this in June? We're just a little bit apart, and I'd really rather keep you here."
Foote: "I really don't want to go through the summer not knowing where I'll be next year. I've got my kids, you know?"
Howson: "Sure, but I'm telling you we want you to -stay here- next year."
Foote: "I really think that if we don't have a deal by tomorrow, I want to be traded."
Howson: "Well, I have gotten a lot of calls about you."
Foote: "I hope one of them was Colorado. That's the only place I'd really be happy going back to."
Howson: "...can we talk tomorrow morning?"
Foote: "Sure."

**Deadline Day**

Howson: "Well, Adam, I've got some calls to make, but I want to you to seriously look at this. It's all the incentives you liked. We just can't see giving you 4 million, I'm sorry, but I did raise the base pay to 3.7 million a year."
Foote: "Call Colorado. I want traded."
Howson: "You won't reconsider staying until the summer?"
Foote: "Call Colorado."
Howson: "Is it really that much less money?"
Foote: "Call Colorado."
Howson: "OK. I'm sorry to hear that."

And then Foote got in a cab and went to the airport.

My prediction is that around the end of the playoffs, regardless of if Colorado makes it in or not, Foote signs for 2 years at 2.5-3 million.

20 minutes later, Howson faxes details of his contract negotiations with Foote (including offers and incentives) to the leauge office and files the paperwork on a collusion grievance against Foote, the Avs, and Foote's agent.
