It's been a very busy day, filled with awesomeness.

Shortly after my last set of tirades, [livejournal.com profile] quoniam23 came by, and Alex and I went to brunch with him over at Starliner. Much tasty food was consumed for all of the right reasons.

Not too much after we got back, [livejournal.com profile] kaote called, wondering what we were up to, and we made arrangements to hang after she finished a typhoon of housework.

Then, just after -that-, Scott called me again. "Umm...my car won't start. Can you come by the guardtower?"

After some additional phone calls about logistics and needed tools, I and my toolkit were on the way out to help Scott with some cantankerous battery cables. We quickly found that the tightening bolts weren't able to deal with the leads on his new battery very well, and the cables themselves were slipping off. So, it was off to wal-mart for electrical tape, WD 40, and some extra wrenches and sockets for Scott's trunk, just to be on the safe side.

Upon our triumphant return to the parking lot, I helped Scott secure his cabling, start the car, and get on the road back to campus at about the same time Elissa was ready to head over, so I booked back to the house.

Once she arrived, a birthday card was sneakily presented (yay!), she ate ravenously of a veggie taco (yay!), and we flipped around the TV a bit until I ended up on an AFL game and explaining the vagaries of Arena Football for awhile. Somewhere in there, I also was educated on the right way to serve mead. (This will be important later.)

Somewhere in there, [livejournal.com profile] dklegman arrived, and with it, 140% more zany.

After finding some highly suitable basketball and a discussion about guild things, we rolled out to Ka Ya to meet [livejournal.com profile] flaggerx, [livejournal.com profile] yukon_jack and his lovely ladyfriend, and quite a lot of Korean food. Tasty rice cakes with plenty of hot sauce, a whacking lot of Korean BBQ, all the tasty side treats, barley tea, beer, and other items made their way around the table, and everyone left with a happy bit of a stagger.

As Elissa, Rich, and ...theladyfriendwhosenameIsuddenlycannotrecall took off to their next social engagements, we had Alex, myself, and the two Daves standing in a parking lot, pondering what to do next when I had a flash of inspiration.

"Birthday cake."

Followed by: "Alcohol!"

So we went to the nice fancy Kroger on Henderson for

A) A very decadent raspberry and creme cake
B) Vanilla Java Porter
C) Raspberry ice cream

Upon returning home, we found some tasty basketball, and I chilled both the beer and a bottle of mead which Elissa had given us as a thank you for minding her kittahs.

After some bathroom breaks had been taken and everyone was settled, it was time for cake, mead, and ice cream, including some very amusing moments where Onyx kept trying to sneak up the couch and steal some of Alex's cake and ice cream. (Not anyone else's, mind you - just Alex's. He knows the easy target!)

The mead was fantastic, and blended quite tastily with the cake and ice cream.

Then, hockey was watched, tales told, smack talked, and we tried to explain the EPIC FORCE of Don Cherry to Dave Wyatt. I'm not totally sure I succeeded. So here's some of Don's greatest hits!

It's been a great day, and a perfect finish to celebrating my birthday...almost 2 weeks later. :D

Thanks to everyone, you've all been wonderful, and it's been amazing. :>
