Like everyone else, we're getting hammered with snow at the moment.

We went out to make a token attempt at shoveling out, and we quickly figured out that

A) The snowfall hasn't even slowed down yet.

B) The plows stopped running sometime around midnight and haven't returned.

C) Man, it's cold out here.

So, after I snapped a few more photos, we returned to the warmth of the man cave, and I thought I'd throw a few pictures up, since that seems to be what everyone else is doing. :D

Here's the front of the house, after slogging down to help get one of our neighbor's cars un-stuck. (Yeah, it's a level 2 - but I have to admit that kidney dialysis is a pretty good reason to need to drive, despite the conditions)

Oh, and here's the view from the porch:

That vague set of tire impressions is basically the street, except the street is actually about a half foot below the top of the snow.

Here's the top of the place:

If I had to guess, it's about a foot worth of snow on the roof. How does that drift stay up there like that, anyhow?

Our official snow estimate was for somewhere between 14-24" inches before this finishes, so we'll see how well that does.

In theory, I have a back porch.

Blizzard 010

The tallest drift is about three feet tall in there, so we're not testing that theory too much yet.

Supposedly, Alex and I also have cars.

We've mostly dug his out, since he parked in front, but there's the small problem that the wind and drifts are coming from the driver's side, so we'll probably have to use blasting caps to actually get in, should the snow emergency be lifted.

Oh, and the fact that Alex shoveled all the snow that was in front of the garage door to...the driver's side of my car. The drift there is now up to about 4 feet tall. He will get his later, oh, yes....

Your intrepid photographer @ the five minute mark of being outside:

(Yes, I had a hat (and gloves!) that I did wear for trying to shovel, but I didn't wear it while taking pictures.)

Finally, for the "awww, kitty!" crowd, here we have Onyx once again trying to sneak out while the kitchen door is open.

Blizzard 013

Upon further review, he found it was cold, white, sticky, and time to go back inside with a verdict of "AUGH SNOW WTF?!"

In addition to digging the neighbor out, we did get the front walk and the sidewalk done, and I shoveled part of the driveway skirt until I realized that would only make getting the car onto the road harder due to the current difference between snow/road level, and decided that (and my back starting to kill me) was a good sign to quit while we're ahead.

We're probably going to go out after they start plowing, or the snow finally stops, whichever comes first. I'll try to get some more pictures to share when we do!

Yeah we had 3 SUVs out here all stuck in the snow, and about 20 people pushing on various cars. My neighborhood makes no attempt to clear roads at all, so there's a foot of snow on the roads too. Hilarity!

LOL at Onyx!

Not surprised one bit.

Hell, we're supposed to get plowed, but haven't yet. Maybe later, I guess.

My street generally gets ploughed all the time as it's a mid level artery. Not today. My guess is those guys have all the can do keeping the interstate open, and well, they have to sleep sometime.

I just spent a couple hours shoveling my driveway. Now that I can get out, I don't want to go anywhere. Maybe I'll go see what's on pay-per-view.

Pay per view is definitely not a bad idea.
