So, among other things today, Alex and I fired up THE NEW GRILL with [livejournal.com profile] dklegman hanging out for snarky assistance and beer. (Landshark - Not Bad! Leimenkugle Lager Shandy - Surprisingly good when you consider it's Beer with Lemonade in it.)

Beef was apotheosized into steak. It was glorious.

But as Dave and I went out for prep work, hitting Loews for more Cowboy Charcoal. (Bastards have raised the price per bag from $5 to $6.50! We really are in a recession. Oh, well. :D)

I bought two bags of hardwood charcoal, and a little $2 firelighter guy in case I'd forgotten/lost/broke the old one during the grilling off season.

I got back a receipt that is over 2 feet long.

"Specially selected for this survey" / survey info - 12 inches of receipt

"Store Feedback! Let us know about your experience!" - 10 inches

"How to get a refund" - 4 inches.

"Thanks for shopping Loews!" - 2 inches.

Actual receipt for the stuff I bought - 5 inches.

Wow.

I swear the paper industry is giving them kickbacks. :) It's the only thing that makes sense, because paper and ink aren't cheap really.

And this isn't even regular paper! It's -shiny- paper. Shiny paper costs more!

*nodnodnod* That's why stores irk me somewhat. They'll spend gazillions on theings people throw away, but cut back on personal in bad times. *Blinks*

Beer!

I'd heard about landshark - have to get some soon.

If the Kona Brewery's beer is available there, GET SOME! Michelle and I drank it at their restaurant on O'ahu, and now it's being sold here in FL. I don't know how far it's gone, but keep an eye out for it. Quality brews.

Do, do - it really was a very nice "Summer" beer. Went great with the smells of the freshly cut lawn and the grill.

I haven't seen any Kona lately, but the last two times I went beer shopping it was at Kroger or the Geagle.

Andersons' usually has a really insane beer selection. I'll take a look there for it next time I go down there for something. :>

I know I've seen Kona in town but I'm blanking on where, Palmer's on Indianola maybe? Or Grapes of Mirth at the North Market? Regardless, Anderson's probably isn't a bad starting point.

Since your photo message I've been thinking it's overdue time for some grilling out, we'll need to work out a period in the next couple of weeks.

Oh, cool. :D

Hmmm...y'know, it's not like I need complex reasons to visit the North Market either. Maybe I can talk Alex into needing to get to the North Market as part of a shopping trip this weekend. :>

Alex and I were discussing doing a nice smoked pork loin or roast in the new grill since it features a special grating for roasting. (It has HATCHES to lift up and add coals to the fire without having to take the food off the grill.

HATCHES.)

Lemme know. :>
