Am I the only one who finds it a bit odd that, for all the talk about how Hilary is "running her own campaign" and "refusing to be in her husband's shadow", all the news lately is about how Bill is campaigning / celebrating / reaching out to the voters in the remaining primaries?

Or is this one of those quiet hypocrisies we're not supposed to mention?

Well, I have tried to have my head in the sand as far as possible since the PA primary happened and the circus left town. So I haven't actually seen any of this coverage.

But it's traditional for the candidate's family to hit the campaign trail on the candidate's behalf. It's just that usually the spouse is a woman.

As I understand it WJC is still popular with some segments of the electorate. So it makes sense to use him.

Of course, at least as much of the electorate hates him with a passion. The love and the hate make it sensible for the media to cover what WJC does, because people will pay attention, which means ratings and revenue and blah blah blah.

If she were really wanting to show that she was in charge would it make philosophical sense to have WJC sit at home all the time? Probably. But I doubt it makes strategic sense. And if she's telling him where to go, then well, it's not like he's the one who's in charge. *shrug*

Of course, we probably won't know for a while if ever to what extent WJC is in involved in decision-making. Certain segments of the right seem to think it's all a Clintonian conspiracy for ... something. Who knows.

All that said, I really dislike the idea of HRC as the Democratic nominee. Probably not enough to vote for McCain, but ... I think she's power-hungry in a way that is Not Good.

The running snark among the group I went through college in Pittsburgh with is that Hillary is after her third and fourth terms as president. Probbably isn't true, but she does come across as someone who's after power simply for the sake of having it.

She did state that voting for Bil was a two-for-one deal. And since she's had eight years already (by her own admission), she's therefore constitutionally barred from running at all.

Yay Constitution!

Oh, I know it's not that unusual for family to campaign, but I think it's -very- odd that Bill seems to be the -only person campaigning- in WV and KY. I haven't been able to find any evidence in the media that Hilary's even made an appearance down there?

I will not vote for McCain. (His flipflopping on anti-torture legislation sealed that.) I will not vote for Clinton (same reason as you.) I would happily vote for Obama. If he is not the dem. candidate (UNLIKELY, but a back door deal is possible), I suspect I'll either vote for the Libertarian (who seems to have some principles, given his defection from the GOP), or just write in Fat Dave.

McCain's ideas on foreign policy ... let's just say he's too happy to spend blood and treasure for me to want to vote for him. Admittedly this is based on a very superficial conception of his position. Hopefully I won't actually need to explore it further, because I want to vote for Obama. (I am not actually enthusiastic about him ... I just think he's the best of a poor set of options.) Failing that ... Gary Roberts is my president. ;)

(Yeah, not a natural-born citizen of the US ... I know. Still. ;)

Edited to fix image link.

I have no issue with voting for such a proven performer in stressful situations.

Gary Roberts will take the 3am phone call, reach through the telephone, and punch the caller.

I am now torn between voting for Mr. Robers or Cmdr. Antilles.

Clearly, the solution is a Roberts/Antilles ticket.

When they publish the divorce papers, then she'll be out of her husband's shadow. Until then, she's a sham as a female candidate.
