So, like I mentioned, today was a trip up to Cleveland to the Cleveland Museum of Art and their Arms and Armor exhibit.

-Holy- -Crap-.

Not just a well done exhibit with great art and really good audio tour to take you through, but some of the most gorgeous armor and weapons I have ever seen - particularly some of the crossbows and harquebus' for nobles. Weapons so covered with intricate engraving and decorations that you can't imagine it being used, even for hunting.

Much of what was there was "practical" equipment for day to day use by soldiers, but there were some really exquisite items, and everything was just....well, perfect.

My granma got somewhat obsessed with a set of full plate armor for a horse. :D She couldn't believe the horse would tolerate (let alone move around in) all that armor. :> She kept coming back to it, walking around, and examining it after we finished the other rooms of the exhibit. I very nearly got a print of the horse and rider's armor for her. :D

Then, it was off to a delicious dinner at Sergio's on University Circle, amazing dessert, and a pleasant drive back.

Life is great right now. I cannot tell you how great life is right now. :D

Museums, neat. Weapons in an art museum, even better. :)

The Cleveland enjoys an international reputation for a reason. Maybe i need to get up there, if I can find the time, as the military historian in me would find that fascinating.

This particular exhibit (the only thing open during current remodeling) leaves June 1st, but I understand that in July, they'll open about 1/3 of the museum up, including the Armor Court, and some of the pieces from the Groz collection will stay at the CMA.

Meanwhile, if you like, I got a great book on the Groz armory if you'd like to look at it. :D

I've been meaning to get to the CMA for that. OK, next weekend plans for when I'm not looking at houses.

Since it's the only open exhibit right now, it's easy to get through (and -do- take the audio thing. It's free anyhow with your admission!)

Even with stopping and going back a few times because my parents or grandparents wanted me to explain something, or ask if I'd seen things before, we got through it as a group of 5 in about 2 and a half hours. Alone, I could see you doing it in an hour and a half or so.
