First whoops: Getting up thinking the prospect camp session started at 9 when it actually didn't start until 10:30. Felt a wee bit like the restless dead as a result.

Second whoops: While taking pictures at the camp, my camera's zoom made a nasty grinding sound, the camera display suddenly said "ERROR: E18" and then the camera died! The Battery was charged last night, so I know that wasn't it - tried starting it back up and the camera lens only deploys about halfway and I get the same error again.

Still and all, for an open box camera (no box, actually, broken battery door, and a missing USB cable - they handed me everything in a baggie), that I bought for $150 almost 4 years ago, I think it did rather well.

And as it turns out, Newegg has a sale deal on the SD1100 (basically the newer, sexier, more pixel-y successor of my SD400) for $200 with free shipping and a 2GB SD card thrown in for grins, so I'll take that.

RETAIL POWERS, ACTIVATE!

Okay, but what about the hockey?

Well, lemme repost from HFboards. :D I thought you were reading over there. ;D

My first surprise was after getting there a bit early, I found Brassard and some other lads on the ice playing some 2 on 3 hockey, with a goalie in net! Nobody was wearing "named" jerseys, but I thought one of the defensemen was Plekhanov, and one of the other forwards besides Brass was wearing a CBJ helmet with "46" on it. I can't find anyone listed with 46 on the website right now - anyone got ideas? They seemed to mostly just be playing for fun, but I did notice Agnew sitting on the bench watching them while they were out.

Brass looked good! Seemed like they were all in a pretty good mood.

After they left, the ice got zammed up, and then Tyler Wright hit the ice to do a bit of stick handling and skating, followed eventually by the prospect campers. Fornataro was the first guy out, but everyone else kinda came in a bunch from there so I think they were coming in as a group and he just happened to be first out.

Murray seemed to be running practice for the most part today, with a lot of drills involving transition again. Some lead passing and point shooting from the defense and forwards working off each other, but just about every skating drill involved either clearing or entering zones.

Kosmachev was listed in today's roster as 6'3", 209. I think that seems about right. He's big, he seemed to be pretty solid defensively, and his shot sounds like the cannon going off. Save money on explosive charges and just have him send a few slappers into the boards.

If I had to guess, the crowd today was probably 150+. Not quite as big as last night, but you still had a pretty fair load of people.

Mayorov seemed to have a sore hand - at one point during the zamboni break he asked Kosmachev to skate up some snow for him, and then he took the snow and made it into an impromptu icepack. Didn't seem to hurt him too much in drills or shooting (in fact, I thought his passing was a bit better today), but worth reporting.

Also, I noticed that Vogelhuber went to the bench while the Zamboni was going around and was rubbing his knee a bit, and then did not return for the rest of the session. Could be the knee was an issue, could just be that the other drills involved possible contact, and he's supposed to be avoiding contact according to the Dispatch article about camp from today's paper. Not honestly sure.

Voracek was once again the best skater on the ice, including a couple of wicked goals during runs that got applause from the stands and some stick banging on the ice.

I think that Legein had a pretty good day, too - I noticed how clean a lot of his passing was, and he either created or assisted some nice goals himself. I know a lot of people keep penciling him in as a future bottom 6 agitator, but I am starting to wonder if we're selling him a little short.

If he can fill out and be a good guy in the room, I'd far rather have a fast, scrappy guy with some scoring touch on my 2nd line then, say, a fast scrappy guy who has a history of concrete stick. (*cough* CHIMERA. *cough*) I don't know if he's NHL ready, but I'm really interested to hear how he does in Syracuse.

Passing seemed better today in general from most guys. I'm wondering if some of the issues yesterday were more nerves and not really skating with most of these guys before.

Weber, Sigalet, Ruth, and Delisle all did good jobs today in the 3 on 2 drills of keeping guys away from the net, and creating some takeaways.

Hitch was talking a lot of Transition several times around the whiteboard - really pounding it in. I think that's the theme for camp this year. However, he did seem really pleased at the end of the session - a lot of "Good Job!" and stopping to talk to several guys - I don't actually think he was giving Ruth any business, because he seemed to talk to him the same way he talked to Mayorov after practice, and both of them also got a good "attaboy" pat on the shoulder when he was done. I think he was talking to them about something positive he saw on the ice.

We just resigned Wilson and Plekhanov, too.

I am betting that Russel and Wilson will be competing with each other in camp quite a bit.
