Day 4! The day that is more than 3.

Started off with the CBJ ticket guys mentioning to several season ticket holders that Filatov's entry deal is done - 3 years, they're supposedly going to be working to get the visa done "quick."

Legein and Sigalet lead the way out to the ice this morning - the Johnsons and Vogelhuber took part in drills, but not the scrimmage. No Ruth or Fornataro - I know Ruth had to go back to ND yesterday, I assume something similar for Fornataro with New Hampshire.

Mior came out in a "Forwards" (white) jersey with York in a "Defense" (red). Brassard looked -very- confident and relaxed even in the warm up skate and drills. If his back was bothering him, he didn't act like it at all.

We also had Pineault, Pohl, and Plekhanov join the skate.

Remember the "mystery" #46 defense player with no nameplate I mentioned back on Tuesday who skated for a bit and then left the ice? That was Plekhanov. It was official today, though they had to make him skate back to the bench during warmups to put the name plate onto the jersey! Plekhanov looked pretty solid - I'd say he compared well to Delsile or Weber in height and a bit of an edge in weight/development.

Forwards and Defense started in seperate drills this morning with the Forwards doing passing / attack as a 3 man line against York, while the Defense did point shots and pinching in / passing drills against Mior.

After that, the Dr changed to a drill where 2 guys skated around the circles, passed to each other, then passed to another D-man at the right point, who then passed to a D man on the left point, who took a point shot. This was the first time this particular drill was run this week.

The forwards next drill involved 2 men rushing in, and waiting to take shots / grab rebounds until almost right on top of the net. They seemed to be trying to emphasize working around the net.

Next, the forwards switched to dump and chase drills, with Noel or Wright sending pucks into the corners and making them try to chase, recover, and attack.

Defensemen worked on board battles with one man trying to dig the puck out of the boards and the other trying to force it back in / take his body.

The next stel of drills for forwards involved two guys standing over a puck and working around it without using their sticks or skates - basically practicing trying to push someone else off the puck and take control.

Because of his knee / non-contact (I assume), Vogelhuber spent this drill doing skating and some sprints at center ice.

Our final drill before the scrimmage was a full ice drill. 2 forwards, 2 "defending" defensemen and two attacking defensemen basically chasing each other, with the attackers trying to move from the back of their starting zone, break out, and score, while the defenders tried to push them off and get control of the puck.

Brassard and Voracek were the first forward pairing for this, and honestly, it was a little scary. They had the puck on a string, including a jawdropping pass about 6 inches in front of the goal mouth and a goal that got pretty much everyone cheering from the stands. (Speaking of, the place was PACKED. Full stands plus people standing most of the way around the rink looking in from the boards.)

After the zamboni, the guys split into White team and Red team, with forwards and defensemen switching into appropriate jerseys for the 4x4 scrimmage.

Your starting lines were

RED:

Pohl - Pineault
Sigalet - Page

WHITE:

Brassard - Voracek
Kosmachev - Clitsome

Lots of open ice, lots of fun skating and "ooh and ahhh" passes or chances from just about everyone.

I noticed that the Red team was using Legein as a forward for about half his shifts and a defenseman for the other half? Possibly because of being down a man? Not really certain.

Our first goal came a few minutes in for the White team from Hughes, catching the rebound from a Clitsome shot and burying it.

A short time later, Brass and Voracek put on a passing clinic that was punctuated by Plekhanov burying it off of Brassard's feed. 2-0 White!

After several back and forth moves, including a near-goal-experience for Legein, Clitsome came across the blue line carrying the puck, teed up, and put it over York's shoulder for the 3-0 lead.

Finally, McGurk buried the 4-0 dagger after carrying in and driving around the net, banging it in on an angled backhand.

Mior was -very- hot in goal with a lot of key saves. York seemed to get more comfortable and made more saves as the game went on, but I think he just had an off day.

He also seemed a bit slow on the Red team's "consolation prize" sprints - not 100% to my mind.

However, before we get to the sprints, Noel and Agnew sent both teams to the benches, announcing that White had the 4-0 lead...but that they would hold a shootout with everyone from the White and Red teams, and that if Red could come back, they could still win!

Here's your shootout results:

Brassard = GOAL

Pohl = MISS

Hughes = GOAL

Goloboeuf = MISS

Voracek = MISS

Kubalik = GOAL

Dorsette = GOAL

Legein = MISS

Calvert = MISS

Mayorov = MISS

Greer = MISS

Pineault = MISS

McGurk = GOAL

Didiomette = MISS

Sucharski = MISS

Eddy = GOAL

Kosmachev = MISS

Regner = MISS

Clitsome = MISS

Sigalet = GOAL ( -Sick- move, too. Completely faked out Mior. Probably the best move of the shootout.)

Plekhanov = MISS

Weber = MISS

Henry = MISS

Olson = MISS

Delisle = MISS

Page = MISS

Holden = GOAL

Final score - White wins 8-4 after penalties. Red gets to sprint! And sprint they did for the remainder of the practice while most of White hit the showers.

Voracek stayed to talk to the coaches a bit, and Brassard and Dorsett waited at the bench until Red finished and practice was officially over - then went to do some passing and shooting practice on their own while the Red team cleaned up pucks and sticks.

After cleanup, most of Red hit the showers as well, but Legein, Golobouef, and Mayorov stayed on the ice to shoot for a bit.

Voracek and Brassard scary . . .

Now that's what we want to see. Still up for HB? fifty-fifty Nancy comes up for it.

I'm hip. I was thinking HB tomorrow, maybe see if we can bang out the rest of the smoker on Saturday?

I'll hit Lucy about HB as well.
