So, remember how we were told to order those iPhones, including the one for me to use for testing and so we could support them?

They arrived today!

Right while my boss was talking to the head of F&A....who immediately saw them in the box and said, "Who the fuck ordered those?" (I am not embellishing. That was exactly what she said.)

Boss: "$CEO, $CIO, $SVP, $SVP, $SVP, $VP, $DIR, $VP, and two for us to use for support."

VP F&A: "Oh, my ass they did. We bought Blackberry and they can keep them. Tape that box up, it's going to my office."

Where we're at now is that they're...locked in her office. After my boss discussed this with her, we're waiting for a final decision but the smart money is that many will probably be sent back, probably including mine. If I had to guess, we'll end up giving $CEO and $CIO their phones, and when it comes to support we will be expected to continue our current practice of understanding how to support and troubleshoot everything by fucking magic.

*sigh* Oh, well.

Sarah is generally a nice lady, if you don't cross her. I get the feeling it was the spending of money without her approval that got her back up.

Well, when it comes time to support, "Well, we were supposed to recieve some to use to learn how to support, but those were taken away from us."

I will admit, it is entirely possible that if we send all but those two back, and $CEO has a problem and we explain that answer....we may end up getting an order that we are to order devices to do support with. I'm just not holding my breath too much.

That seems likely. If the CEO or CIO wants to have an iPhone, some VP with "over my head or dead body" attitude is not going to sway them by saying, "No, we use Blackberry." If you can't support it when the Boss has a problem using it, I doubt he's going to be happy being told to call Apple tech support.

Also, didn't I see where you had turned your Blackberry over, cleansed of data, to an administrative assistant? Does she now expect you to go get another one? Or more ridiculously, to request that one back after it's been retasked?

I did do that!

What I have right now is an older (but still working) blackberry that had been turned in for recycling that I pulled on the recycling pile for a stopgap.

I'm expected to be resourceful. And I may get my Curve back when the CEO gets back from his offsite. (Though I dunno, I don't like -either- of these from a personal productivity standpoint. Slow and unresponsive to my normal speed of working.)

OTOH, there's also a difference between resourcefully getting myself one later, and brazen defiance of the woman who signs the paychecks.

So, so true. My old job was going through a bunch of retardedness about data management to an offsite contractor, and the money woman was having her usual fit and ordering the tech manager to make our bandwidth provider dynamically scale a leased line...

and the CIO abruptly descended from the ceiling to point out that our provider Does Not Operate Like That, and he wasn't about to have such garbage going on.

That stopped.
