Weekend Tally

GOT:

A chance to spend the weekend hanging out with Steve, Noelle, and Klegman
40k 5th Ed. HMMM!
A slow itch in my painting nethers. (Yes, Scott, I think I'm gonna try tackling the 10,000,000 gaunts. Maybe....that or finish my Ravenwing bikes.)
My Grill On - grilled prosciutto and marscapone wrapped asparagus and some pork chops with Roxy's mustard sauce. MmmMMHmmmm.
Peace, Love, and Bar-Be-Que - Funny stories galore and many, many tempting recipies once the smoker's finished.
My ass slammed like a screen door in Euchre. Twice.
Euchre vindication with a win off of my go-it-alone clubs hand.
A look at Mike Commodore, since he was signing stuff up at Tuttle.
A new Maverick remote digital meat thermometer! Linens and Things is going out of buisiness and has this normally $50 piece of gear for $24!

Spent a huge amount of time with friends. I know I missed the Roodique and Dark Knight so far, but OTOH, did watch Dr. Horrible, and I really think this weekend couldn't have gone any better. :D The fact that Steve now has his -life- back means that we will probably be doing stuff a ton more with them sooner than later.

Also, I totally filled Dave with lust for my iPhone. It is the Shard of Babylon.

I may have to go peek at 5th Edition. I'm wanting to start up again. Probably Eldar or Orks.

Eldar skimmers got nerfed fairly well in the new edition. That being said, they still benefit from the upgraded toughness of vehicles as a whole. The Falcon dropped from being an A+ vehicle to an A- or B+. However, if you want to run a couple of guardian squads, they can screen most of your important troops, making use of the new cover/true line of sight rules.

Orks got a nice bump from the cover and the run rules. Plus, it's fun to see Ork Trukks running around the board making good use of the new Ramming rule, which can do as much damage to your Trukks as it does to enemy vehicles.

Consider yourself challenged as well, Kleg-Man.

Wait, Linens and Things /itself/ is going out of business? Or just the one near you??
I may bribe you to pick up one of those thermometers for us. We were just there yesterday, got two sets of nice sheets, ~60/.

Certainly the one near us. I think much of the chain is also destructing.

Paypal or money order me the money or something and I can easily grab one for ya, and either mail or it give you an excuse to visit. :D

Curious.

Actually, most of my planned potential Eldar army would be on foot. Likely it'd die a horrible death in an open field, but a good board with lots of stuff on it... they'd be hell on wheels, as it were.

I'll have to look into it.

One near my work, up here in MI is going out of business as well..

Sounds like they'd be a great city army.

Well, the way you're supposed to play, and we finally started to at memphis is you start dropping terrain in a corner till you fill 1/4 of it. Then distribute.

But yea, my eldar army relies largely on pairs of small groups working together.

And war walkers, cause they're bad ass until you shoot them with like... bolters.

Remember, in 5th Ed, vehicles also benefit from cover. If the vehicle is at least 50% covered, or the opponent is shooting through another squad to hit your vehicles, that's a 4+ cover save now. Also, War Walkers get saved by the new damage table. All glancing hits are -2 on the damage table, and as S4 bolters can only glance vehicles, all their damage resolution is at -2. Thus, the worst they can do is immobilize your vehicle.

Technically, you're correct, 1/4 of the board should be filled w/ terrain. And as an eldar player you can make "mobile terrain" as it were. Have a guardian squad w/ warlock w/ conceal shield your vital units, thus granting them 4+ cover.

Hmm. Tell me more about this thermometer, such as accuracy and longevity, ease and functions. I've never heard of it, and can't find much about it online. But, as last night proves (cooking potatoes and meat at same time) we could use another good thermometer.

I'm, uhm, kinda retarded when it comes to paypaly/money order. I have mastered the postal system, and have checks.

There's the webpage for what they were selling. :D

Check can work, but OTOH, for the delays on checks and mail and suchlike, you might be just as well looking for a store in driving range?

perhaps, perhaps. I'll call 'round and see if the local LNT has it. But ours don't appear to be going out of business yet...

The boy is wondering if it can withstand grill temperatures/open flame....and i can't find anything that says.
Is this your first one of these?

Yeah, it's my first one of this model.

The metal probe / cable should be fine? I'll probably be testing mine out sooner or later here and I will let you know. :D
