Oct. 12th, 2008 10:26 pmIt's been a beautiful summer day here, and please ignore the fact that it's October. Despite the leaves changing, it was a warm sunny day turning to a pleasantly cool night. :)
Even more, today was the longer part of Phil and Jenn's visit, starting with breakfast / brunch over at Starliner, then heading home to fire up the smoker to get started on the ribs for dinner. While that got to speed, I showed off a little with the flamethrower, we caught up on how things had been, talked about various things professional and personal going towards the future, and Phil and I told Jenn and Alex quite a few stories about our past at Wooster, including a brief history of the Axe Handle, Fizzball, and The Fish.
Reed apparently had a massive stone owl. I prefer the fish or the coffee mug for their portability, personally.
Scott dropped in for awhile and was turned into the general reconnection, and after an ABT appetizer and a heapin' helpin' of Whoopass in Smash Brothers on the Wii, we had dinner with a side conversation on the etymology of Stuffing vs. Dressing, had some more fun, and eventually closed out with custard over at Culvers, which had the side benefit of utterly terrifying Jenn with the concept of the butterburger.
Needless to say it was a really good day. :)
This summer has been a very big reconnection for me. I've gotten to visit or be visited by a lot of really good friends, renewed ties, and formed a lot of new ones. :) For someone whom I had never met in person before she married one of my best friends, I find Jenn a very welcome person to have as a friend in her own right, and was very glad to spend time with her, too. Even if the cats both taunted you with cuteness and allergy.
(
famularo is in this boat too, by the way. :) I have no idea if I've ever actually told Mike that, but I do consider him a friend and I appreciate getting to hang out with him and Kim at Origins. :>)
I've had a lot of friends who I normally talk to only on the phone or IM lately visit, and I really got a very wonderful feeling from that. :)
It's been an amazing Summer. Soon we'll settle into Autumn for real before the new year comes.
I can only hope it's as full of friends and good things.
