Well, it's officially official. Tennant will leave Dr. Who at the end of the 2009 specials.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens next, but it's also very hard not to be a little sad. He's clearly had fun with the role, and I think his psychotic charisma has helped boost the show's audience quite a bit. I think he's probably the first person to take the role since Tom Baker who could have really done a staggering multi-year run if he wanted to, and the fanbase would have been happy about it.

That said....I'm excited a bit. Moffat gets to go into the show with a blank slate, his choice of lead, and the chance to really wind up for a home run going into his inaugural season. This should be freaking awesome.

Considering the much more rapid pace of the stories these days, David Tennant's run is probably somewhere close to Tom Baker's in terms of total stories, if not total episodes.

They're cranking through Doctors pretty fast though, aren't they? God knows what'll happen once they hit the 12th, bet the Valeyard will show up again.

The Time War clearly reset everybody's "counter", so we've got at least ten more years. If not, the finale of series 3 recharged the battery or something.

Yeah, there's so many different McGuffins....I think it'd actually be hilarious to get to #13....have him all composed and ready to accept his death, and then....bang!

It boggles the mind to think of how long a Dr. Who marathon might last. Only the idle rich could do it.

Tennant was a fine Dr. Who, although it was Tom Baker who started the conversation between myself and my first love. And I met Nancy at a Dr. Who party. Freaky.

One year, MarCon did just Tom Baker shows all weekend. I think they made it about halfway through his run in 72 hours of straight shows.

Tennant's certainly going to leave a profound legacy behind, but I sure can't wait to see what he does afterward.

Do you think Moffat's going to go with someone he's worked with before, like James Nesbitt or Richard Coyle, or will he go in a totally different direction?

While Nesbitt or Coyle could be interesting, I almost hope it's something totally unexpected.

I could live happily with either of those guys, tho.
