Nov. 4th, 2008 09:05 amGot to the polls about 6:45. Lines were already out the door. (Or at least, one line was. For some reason, instead of last year where they had 4 voter books and A-F, G-L, M-S, T-Z, we only had A-K, L-Z. Apparently L-Z has a lot of early risers, because that was pretty much all the voters except for one or two A-Ks who occasionally came in and basically got to cut the line in from of everyone else.)
It look about 40 minutes to get up to where I confirmed my ID and such, all the while listening to a woman behind me give all the poll workers she could see holy hell about how it wasn't fair that the A-K people kept getting to jump the lines. I sort of agreed with her, but after the first poll worker offered to give her the number of the sec. of state's office to complain, she declined, and then waited until the next poll worker came by and she started going on on the exact same things with them, using almost the exact same words, I quickly tuned her out. Sorry, ma'am, but I'm not inclined to care when you just seem to want to hassle the poll workers trying to do their jobs.
A lot of people took the paper ballots to try and get out faster, but I decided I had the time so I waited the extra 20 minutes or so to use a booth. I voted in all the contested races and issues, but left the uncontested ones unfilled. The machine bitched at me, but honestly, if nobody can be arsed to run against someone, I'd rather abstain. (And it's not like county dogcatcher is exactly a pivotal race...)
I confirmed my ballot, voted, got my sticker, and went to work.
