Date: 2008-12-06 03:30 am (UTC)The chances of Onyx disappearing completely and another nearly-identical cat showing up the same day are vanishingly slim, also, to be fair, and disappear entirely when that cat is accepted by your other cat completely without incident.

Date: 2008-12-06 03:37 am (UTC)We'll probably go with a vet visit to check for a chip and that'll be it, plus some flyers asking "Did we switch cats?"

Date: 2008-12-06 02:15 pm (UTC)You couldn't tell what the chip said, but you could find out if he had a chip in him by holding him up to an access control panel somewhere. I don't think he'd go for that, though.

Date: 2008-12-07 05:13 am (UTC)2) this cat didn't jump up to the sink when I was in the bathroom. It was one of Onyx's quirks. This cat was actually rather afraid of the bathroom.
3) Patches really hissed at him earlier tonight, HARD. Since I got home, Patches has shown me her displeasure for this cat.
4) his eyes seem a little more orange than Onyx's eyes.
5) he's constantly stepping on my keyboard for attention, Onyx never did that.
6) as I was laying down earlier tonight, this cat was all over my chest, Onyx hated to be on my chest.
7) he doesn't "smell right." I know that this is usually reserved for other animals, but he just doesn't have the right smell that I remember Onyx smelling like.
8) failed the "upside down" test. I'd hold Onyx upside down, and he'd spend at least a good minute like that. this cat wanted out almost immediately
9) this cat just followed my mouse cursor as I was moving it. Onyx outgrew that.
10) when Onyx laid down on my bed, it was almost always exclusively on my comforter, head looking out my door. This cat doesn't mind being off my comforter and near me.
11) this cat does not like his chin rubbed. I would turn Onyx into goo like that.
12) I swear I'm smelling spray in my house. Onyx never did that. Is this cat neutered?
13) during dinner, he stayed away from us, only to come look for pets while we finished eating. He never begged for food. Onyx loved table scraps.
14) the pitch of this cat's meow is all wrong.
15) Patches has been really hissy at him since I got home. BZA said that she wasn't this bad before I got home yesterday
16) (a little extra personal, but still a point): when I cleaned the litter boxes, Onyx would usually come over and do a #1. The last two nights, this cat did a #2
17) When Onyx was done with the litter box, you'd hear him "clean his claws" or something on the top of the litter pan. This cat is not doing that, his digging patterns are also different from Onyx's.
18) This cat doesn't eat plastic. Onyx loved to eat plastic.
Now I know this is all circumstantial, but each one is lowering the probability that this is Onyx. 1 or 2 changes I can understand, but 18 after being outside for 3 days?
No. It's not Onyx.
