Not such a bad day, though.
Dec. 21st, 2008 07:34 pmIn happier, non-sports related news, we got together with
dklegman and
kaote to do some more present exchanges. Elissa got Dave what I can only call a horrifically suitable hoodie (which really has to be seen - it cannot be described), while Alex and I got Elissa a WoW calendar and the Dethalbum. Elissa responded by getting Alex...the exact same WoW calendar, and got me a party tray of cheeses and sausage + a chili and dark chocolate bar.
I know that normally sausage boxes are the realm of the truly uncertain what is appropriate gift, but in this case, it worked out awesomely well. More on this later.
After unwrappage, everyone was some level of hungry, and we had a request from the gallery for Indian, so we motored over to Taj Palace only to find they'd just closed for their "between lunch and dinner service" reset break. So, instead, we headed to Stealth Thai as it was the best substitute option. A very convivial meal ensued, with conversation that roamed from gaming stuff to driver's ed stories to bemusement as the only other occupied table in the restaurant took bewildered note of the fact that Elissa got some (apparently quite noms) tofu pad thai. (Seriously, if you're going to eavesdrop on what we ordered (trying to find suggestions for your own meal?), don't blurt out the name of the dish in confused shock.)
Afterward, we sallied back home to introduce Elissa to the raving rabbits and busted out the sausage box, which did a great job of turning "gathering" into "Party!", which is always awesome.
And, as it turns out, both the sausage and the sampled included cheeses (VERY spicy pepper jack, Havarti, cheddar spread) were quite tasty. We've still got some Havarti, sharp cheddar, and more spread left, plus one unopened sausage, that may be consumed Christmas Eve when we (hopefully) have some people over for dinner.
(The idea was suggested and we readily agreed, but two of the invited have not responded yet, so if it turns out we're making a big ass pan of lasagna, bread, and a good sized salad for just three people, we may put out an emergency call for eaters!)
I think the lesson (and I believe, the intent) of the sausage box is that anything that encourages me to have people around and be social is awesome. :) I really am a social creature, at heart. Bet that'd shock a lot of the people who knew me in High School.... ;)
Edit! OOOO. I also forgot to mention that Elissa brought over a bottle of mead. While I am still not a huge mead person? This also came with mulling spices, and hot mulled mead went quite well with me, though I'm surprisingly still a bit lightheaded, which you really wouldn't expect.
