Apparently our cold water works for the toilets, and the kitchen, and the dishwasher, and Alex's bathroom sink, but is not working in either shower.

I've made the administrative decision that we'll see if this improves after it warms up tomorrow (it's currently -11 here in sunny Ohio, and is supposed to be up in the 30s tomorrow), and if it doesn't improve over the weekend I suspect I'm calling a plumber. :/

Tried running some hot water down the drain periodicly yet?

The one shower at my parents house has a tendency to do the same thing when it's extremely cold. Usually a few jugs worth of hot water would fix it.

Hm. Not yet. Thanks, we'll have to try that!

I think I tried that in the process of running the hot tap to test each water source. The hot is working everywhere.

Here's the updated list of what is working and what's not:

working:
kitchen sink
downstairs sink and toilet
washing machine

not working:
upstairs sink and toilet
both showers (one upstairs, one downstairs)

Currently, I have no clue what the common property is. Everytime I think of a rule, there's an exception.

I think let's see if it gets better tomorrow, and we'll go from there.
