According to several reports, Michelle Ryan may be the newest companion.

On the one hand, hoping they don't do any more sappy love plots between the Doctor and the companion. I have to agree that one of the things that made me like Donna (after I got over the vauge annoyance that Catherine Tate puts off naturally) was that she didn't try to go for his pants. She earned her way to being an equal and got to be awesome.

On the other hand, she spent Jeykll being smart, in control, and generally extremely sharp and a fantastic character, so I've got quite a bit of hope.

Plus, she's hot as hell, so y'know...

Sounds potentially excellent! And Donna also won me over with her distaste for interspecies romance.

Also, Michelle Ryan is my age and that's weird. Though I suppose Billie Piper is Phil's age.

Yeah, it's starting to be a little un-nerving to realize that if things had gone a little different, you could have gone to high-school with $New Famous Person.

Even worse when you realize you could have baby-sat them. *doh!*

Yes, well.

See what comes of not eating your vegetables as a child?

Michelle Ryan was almost hot enough to get me to keep watching Bionic Woman. So I'll take her in Doctor Who.

That works. I heard BW was...impressively awful? Which is a shame. She really seemed to be a solid actress.

I'm hoping we see the merciful end of canon Doctor shipping. At the very least if we have to deal with ANOTHER one, it needs to be with a girl less annoying than Rose. Rose being upsettingly irritating and too damn dumb for somebody like the Doctor to be attracted to was what really put me off it. (I did not feel a hiccup of complaint when we met River Song, for example. Unless she's her cloned daughter from the future in which case THAT IS WEIRD)

River Song was interesting.

Really, I actually kinda hope we see something like Tegan or Turlough used to be - a vaugely antagonistic companion.

Maybe not overtly mistrustful or trying to sabotage things, but someone who doesn't think the Doctor is all wise, and is willing to give him back some of the attitude.

I...really hope her acting isn't as bad as it was in Bionic Woman. Because that show... yeah. That would make Dr. Who a very sad time for me.
I haven't actually watched the last season yet (I KNOW!!!! Ahh silly me)... partially BECAUSE Catherine Tate really does annoy me. I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm not sure if it's in her voice, her appearance, or in her actual acting/attitude.
I'm going to need to re-watch an ep of Jekyll that she is in... I appear to have completely erased her being in that show from my memory (to be honest, I barely remember any of that show... except that the chick from Coupling and now Leverage was in it).

er, and by "she" in that last bit, I obviously mean Michelle whatsherface. Not Catherine Tate. Yah.

Yup, got that part. :)

Watch, like, the first two eps of Jekyll. She's in all of them, actually, but those are going to get the most screen time for her I think. :)

The promo shots for the new Doctor and this potential companion make me itch in a 'oh christ it's going goth/paranormal tones way.

But then again, people hated the second Doctor for a while too.

I think a bit of horror could be fun - some of the best Dr. Who episodes were scary, not just sci-fi.

We'll see, though. :)

If we get another Hugo winning episode like "Blink" in the next full season, I think a spookier tone is worth it.
