Heart Attacks and Sleep Deprivation
Feb. 19th, 2009 11:42 amSo, back in January my Mom asked me "Hey, would you take me to a hockey game?" My Aunt was at dinner with us and also wanted to go.
So, I picked up some of the pepsi promotion tickets for the game last night, figuring it would be a nice ramp-up towards my birthday that weekend.
As we got closer to the day of, we made arrangements to meet so we could carpool, etx.
Then my aunt got sick and I suddenly had an extra ticket, which was too bad for her, but good for
flaggerx, since he was looking to go to the game.
And then we had a surprise! Work gave me tickets to the game in our HD Lounge seats! So I gave away the pepsi tickets and we went to the HD Lounge instead. :)
Dinner was awesome, and I got tapped out of the crowd to go listen to a pre-game breakdown session by one of the assistant coaches (Claude Noel), which was really interesting.
Then, after I got back to our table, I got jumped by the waitstaff. SOMEONE had tipped them off to the fact I was having a birthday.
I have to admit it was pretty neat that a bunch of tables around us (many of them people I've seen in the HD lounge on the occasions I've gotten to use the work tickets before, but haven't really gotten to know well) told me happy birthday as well as people went up for the start of the game.
The game itself has been pretty well documented - Columbus dominated for the first two periods, started to coast, let St. Louis back into the game, and then Mason slammed the door and preserved the win for the Jackets. Aside from a couple of heart attacks I had in the last five minutes of the game, it went just about perfectly. :) The crowd was loud, involved, and it was an amazingly emotional game - I literally got weak-kneed with relief as the final horn sounded.
After the game, we headed back and people got on their ways home, but I found myself unable to sleep. I ended up hanging out on the computer in EVE and on M3 until almost 2am because I just couldn't burn off that emotional energy. I did a nice roam up into 0.0 all the way to Harroule with some OI and UTA guys, but unfortunately we couldn't catch any Huzzah or EM bait, so it was mostly a chance to hang out and shoot the shit with some of the UTA guys on their Teamspeak server.
Finally, I felt like I finally was getting sleepy, so I crawled into bed, sort of woke up at 6am, really woke up at about 7 with my alarm, and scraped myself into the shower and out to work, but I still feel more than a bit loopy and lightheaded.
And yet I'm going to the R-Bar game watching party tonight. :) Who says I can learn?
