Okay, so remember when I said it that was probably the video card, and if not I was in trouble?

Yeah, I'm in trouble. A new power supply and video card later, still no good. Drives tested OK, just no video, no sound.

Motherboard, thy name is toasted.

So, my parents and I worked out that for early christmas, I'm getting either a new motherboard/proc/memory combo, or a cheap new computer. Going to sit down and shop here shortly.

In good news, got to hang out with the Gook, played a LARP to the bone (even if it was badly run and on a totally bullshit premise) to the point that I was the undisputed victor despite losing, OSU won, and most importantly, [livejournal.com profile] skarlette had a really good weekend at WindyCon and spent 2 hours on the phone with me afterwards. :>

Okay, so I'm also taking a small ego boost at how much we missed each other, and that stuff constantly reminded her of me...it's strange, but missing her is a little bit easier when I know she misses me just as much.

Anyhow. Back to work and shopping.

I love you, Lisa. Talk to you as soon as I can.

So I just found out, by reading fragments of other people's journals, that a bunch of my friends were in a major car accident on Saturday or Sunday, and one is very seriously injured.

Nobody told me. Nobody even thought to call my office.

The accident happened less than a quarter mile from me. And I didn't know.

The bottom of my stomach is kinda gone, right now.

Doing a meme to try to get stability prior to lunch. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] chaoticgoodnik, even if you don't realize it yet. :D

After walking tonight, I've been asked to go over to a faculty member's house and fix their computer for pay.

Probably only going to make $10 or $20, but hey.

...

I was going to post something about how grafting a computer into my arm or something would be really cool. Then I realized how much it'd annoy Lisa when cuddling.

Then I thought about her deciding that if I'd have a computer on my arm, she'd have to get an extra monitor grafted into my chest so that she could use it (I'd assume my display projected onto my eye, or something), and then I got this image of us cuddling on a couch, and she's using me as her word processor, and I'm just sorta lying back and watching TV and giving kisses and such occasionally, and it really made me giggle, so I'm writing about that instead.

There are days when I think I need serious help.

So I was looking around campus in the midst of running around to deal with a) Mail server failure, b) Router failure, and c) copier failure.

Saw a poster for another series of holocaust talks, and how some people were shaking their heads and talking about getting 'too much' holocaust.

And that lead me to a somewhat chilling thought: Is it possible that people have put so much effort into the 'never again' school of thought that future generations have been totally desensitized to what the holocaust was and represents? That so much has been hammered home that people...just don't care?

Do educators perhaps need to back off a bit? Should the holocaust history be carefully husbanded in public education for times when it will give the most shock value, and make the greatest impression?

Or are my fears baseless, and we should continue a pervasive method of teaching it? (I started getting holocaust history + pictures in, I believe, 5th grade. Every year following, it came up. When did you guys start being exposed?)

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] dklegman? Did you know that Bubba-Ho-Tep is coming to the Drexel Grandview on Friday?

A couple of us are going from work to see the show...interested it catching us?
