So. When I came home Sunday, things were good. Saw neeri, had some chips. Go to hit the email... *bzzt*

"Dad?"
"Yes?"
"Why don't we have internet service?"
"Oh. That."
"...and?"
"Well, we took a spike Saturday morning. And the router died."
"...and that's good?"
"Well, no. But I hadn't felt like replacing it. I'll do it Monday."

Now. My parents do not just have a cable modem, router, and wireless because I live at home. And not only do they use it, but my dad has VPN access to Wendy's (for which the cable access is pretty much required) so that he can do on-call server maintinence stuff on the weekends. And he refuses to allow direct connections to the cable modem, wireless or otherwise, because he doesn't want to put his work stuff at risk without a firewall.

So, wouldn't it stand to reason that if you need this for your job, and it's important, and you won't work without it, that you'd REPLACE IT ON THE DAY IT HAPPENED?

Can't move out soon enough. Really can't.

skarlette, I'm so sorry. I desperately wanted to talk to you last night and hear your stories. With luck, I will be on tonight. Also want to apologize to silentsteel and others who wanted to RP with me.

First, on the Reagan thing: Yes, he was not always the best president or a good human being. But he was a significant figure not only in our country's history, but most of our childhoods. There is something that was diminished by his illness, and diminished further by his passing.

Next, a declaration, partially spawned by an incident this weekend, but which I have decided to extend to those reading this.

You are going to succeed. You deserve to succeed, and most of the people I consider friends, no matter what you are doing right now, have untapped potential or better paths availible, no matter how it appears.

If there is something that I can see, I am going to tell you. If there is a suggestion I can make, I am going to make it. If I can help, I will do it. Ask, and I'll try to give.

But each and every one of you deserves to be everything you can be, and if need, I'll push, drag, annoy, or charge you there.
