Even when I say "The discussion is over", they kept trying to get me to give them a signature or money until I slammed the door.

Actually, for most door to door sales types, there is an actual formula that they are required to follow before they actually will leave you alone. They are supposed to keep trying until you've told them not at least ten - thats right 10, and sometimes even 15 - times. Mainly because some people CAN be badgered into buying if you pester them enough.

You did the best thing for getting rid of them - I think some of the type come to expect it.
