Huh.

Remember that Citibank student MasterCard I mentioned, back when I applied for all those cards?

90% of the ones I applied for turned me down because I had insufficient credit history (bah! I've made 12 solid car payments!), but this one came back okay. :> 10% APR, no annual fee. Sent my acceptance of terms back, so hopefully I'll have a card in 2 weeks.

Also waiting on word of an AmEx student 'Blue' card, too. We'll see. 1 page of the 5 page paper due Tuesday done. It's a start.

If you're a very diligent, mindful person, credit is a very good thing. If you aren't quite up on your own affairs, it can ruin you. So it's a two-edged sword.

However, I've found it to be a very valuable tool. When I was in college, my folks (bless them, but they did try to shelter me) told me I'd 'better not' get credit cards 'or else'...Dad said in his best threatening voice, "You'll regret it!"

Well, I didn't listen to them on this one. Some things are just easier to do on credit, and I wanted to have that ease. So I applied for a Discover Card in 1994, and then a Visa (with my school's logo on the front) in 1995. I was very mindful about paying them off in full every month (and, to note, I still am). Sometimes, things came up where I'd need to float the balance for a month or two, but the cards always got paid off. I'd never charge more than I could pay off that month, unless it was an emergency.

Today, those cards are platinum status, and I'm very glad I got them when I did, because they were a healthy foundation to a great credit history. (Sorry, Dad, you were wrong on this one!!) Use them carefully, and they'll work in your favor. That's my advice. :)

Oh, believe me, I know. :D My mom and dad literally told me that 'We Screwed Up. You will Screw Up.'

On the other hand, I'm proud of the fact that my financial responsibility to this point has been excellent, and I don't intend to change. And I have the bonus of starting with cards that are already fairly forgiving on terms and the rest. So...we'll see. And hope.
