In X-men, Bobby Drake asks Rogue her name, gets 'Rogue', then asks her 'what's your real name', and gets back 'Marie.'
In X2, Magneto asks St. John his name, gets 'John', and then asks 'what's your real name', and gets back 'Pyro'.
Those two scenes, as I think about it, really show the contrast between the two sides better than anything else can.
