..............

First my sister calls yesterday, telling me to make sure not to call until Mom and Dad won't be home, making me very worried.

So what was it about when I called back? Selling me HERBAL SUPPLIMENTS.

"To help with 'the problem' Mom and Dad gave you!"

Best part? After I refused politely.

She then started trying to get addresses and contact info of all of my friends, including several out of state ones, from me.

i wouldn't worry about it. the seminars on that stuff make it sound great and that the money is easy, but when it turns out to be a sham, she'll give up.

She still sells CutCo and used to sell other stuff.

And my family has a maddening habit of this shit. My aunt for awhile became an insurance and stock saleswoman, and tried to buttonhole my friends until I finally lost my temper.

Gyah, CutCo!!! Pyramid scheme in the extreme!

Got rooked into that myself back when I was 18. Worst three weeks of my professional career, period. Worse than the one day I worked cutting lawns, which ended in me punching out my coworker.

Stay strong, mighty Matt. The lemon fresh scent cannot compel you!

My family, thankfully, doesn't dive into the pyramid schemes too heavily.

However, when fundraisers would occur at our school/brownie troop/etc when we were kids, my mother was INSANE w/r/t sales.

My sisters Brownie troop? 8 girls.

How many cookies did the parents shake down people for?

1 full 48' tractor-trailer.

Sadly, I've seen people turn down good paying jobs for silly things like this.

Must have really good recruiters.

IMHO, most of these organizations are one step away from being cults.

I've had people hit me up for Amway, Herbalife, and whatnot in places ranging from a service station to the periodicals section of the bookstore...

Just let her know that you're not interested, you're not likely to ever be interested, and that she does NOT get to annoy your friends for this...

The friends part and the faking a family emergency part is the stuff that really has me pissed.

oh hell, my grandmother would fake an emergency to get me to drive over and change a lightbulb.

Changing lightbulb I can tolerate.

Extorting information and trying to force my friends to purchase things I refuse.
