I get a stipend this month for meals, due to the dining hall being closed a decent chunk of winter break. Except rather than being issued as a seperate check, it's being rolled into my paycheck.

This means it will get A) Taxed, and B) Sent after the dining hall has actually closed.

This is annoying, and they specifically told me that this would /not/ be done. Unfortunately, my contract only specifies the amount and that the stipend will be paid, giving them the option of how to pay it.

Money will probably be kinda tight until the 23rd, yes.

*grumble*

In other news: I had to do a ton of walking for work, and my legs are really bothering me, so I'm gonna wimp out tonight and go eat dinner rather than walking. Especially since I believe I did about 45 minutes of it already.

Taxing a stipend like that is scummy but technically still legal.

Still, you're probably in the tax bracket that gets a full refund. If you file your taxes next month, you'll only be missing out on about a dollar in interest. Still, the idea that this money is for food for the break makes the situation pretty indecent of them.

Yeah, I know. And I plan to file as soon as my W-2s and W-4s arrive, like usual. :D

But yeah. I can deal with the taxes. It's the making me scrape and huddle for something they agreed to provide that sucks.
