Like a lot of good things, it started with a mention over at Warren Ellis' blog.

Then I hit the official movie website.

Then I hit the trailer.

And y' know what? For the first time since ROTK opened, I have a movie I'm really looking forward to seeing.

I have a great love of the fantasy 30s/40s/50s and some of the art and ideas that came out of those movements. (Not to mention some of those great, if cheesy, serials.) I suspect this is gonna be great!

In other news, I got all the work left on my desk from yesterday done, and I'm strarting to feel really lightheaded, so I'll probably go home and lie down soon.

Also, a big stack of comic books finally arrived from TFW2005's store, more than 6 months late, and they still haven't sent 5 books from my order. However, it's not really worth getting too frustrated about. I'm just gonna say 'screw it', read the books, and if any of them get valuable, I'll sell them on eBay.

Finally, starting to scope out possible places to live in Columbus. We'll see how it goes.

Oh my god, speaking of movies coming out: did you see the trailed for Von Helsing? The one about the vampire/werewolf hunter?

That one looks amazing!

I did see the trailer for that. It doesn't look too bad, but I'm not champing at the bit for it. :D

Sky Captain I am champing at the bit for.

Some time back, I was wondering to myself "Whatever became of Jude Law, the only worthwhile part of AI?" Then, bam, I see a trailer for that at the movies, and see Cold Mountain. It does look awesome, due to the stylizing it. Probably sucks plottily though.

And congrats on using "champing' which is right, and not "chomping".

Wierd phrases and I get along well.

I dunno. The plot at least seems meatish enough to keep attention, even if I doubt it'll be anything monstrously epic. Though part of me wonders if this could be almost an Indiana Jones sort of thing. We'll see.

Speaking of Jude Law, if you haven't seen The Wisdom of Crocodiles, it features him doing a nice job.

I'm more excited about the upcoming I Robot movie. (http://www.irobotnow.com/) It's directed by Alex Proyas, who pretty much rules.

I, Robot

I'm a totally mixed bag on this.

On the one hand, I really, really hope it will be good.

On the other, I read the script that Asimov actually endorsed and helped out Harlan Ellison a bit with, and I really wish they'd made that.

When I saw the preview for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow at RotK, I was the only one of my group of friends who got really excited about it. I can't imagine why anyone would want to pass on a movie that looks that delightfully campy.

I guess the same way people manage to hate Mystery Men, really. Sheer snotty stupidity! Mmm. Sibilance.

I dig it.

And, after talking with Lisa, she is also VERY excited about it, so we hope to see it together.

Hehe.

For Valentine's day, TJ and I are going to see Ginger Snaps 2.

How romantic. ;)

I loved the Harlan Ellison script too. Citizen Kane with robots!

Sky Captain looks like something out of an old 40s Superman cartoon, which is what the creators, the Conran brothers, want. I'm really looking forward to it.

And I enjoyed Mystery Men a damn lot.

Mmmhmm. Except I think the 'human' drama is handled even better than Kane.

*grins* So I saw. I loved the Superman comics in the CHUD behind the scenes stuff that they referenced. And the old cartoons!

My local miniatures gaming group calls it Crimson Skies Versus Mechwarrior.

Wizkids would make a bundle from licensing this, I just know it!
