Well, I'm doomed.

My boss's SWG stories have finally gotten to me, overwhelming me today with a story of a massive Imperial assault on all 3 major Rebel bases in the Radiant galaxy, and how his guild was involved in stopping 2 of the thrusts cold.

I'm giving in. When my refund deposit clears, I'm going to go get a copy and sign up for Star Wars: Galaxies, and I'm so fucking doomed.

You know.. I'd hate to say it, but the only people who play SWG these days are SW fanboys and unghodly twinks...

...The main 'gamers' left the game about a month ago.

Apparently, gameplay wise, it's a stinker.

This is completely opposite from what I hear from the 6 people I know who actually play the game. *shrug*

Besides, I am a bit of an SW fanboy.

Everyone I have talked to who has played the game has absolutely hated it. YMMV, but it's not been getting much praise at all. It's typically viewed as the worst of SOE's three offerings, which says a lot.

This confuses me. I keep hearing great things from people in person, and bad from on the internet. (And yes, by people in person, I mean more than just my boss.)

I suspect I will probably only be happy when I've sat down and seen for myself.

Come now, Matt - what are you going to trust? Your own experience, and the experience of a bunch of meatbags, or the comforting flickering light of the LCD screen?

I'm gonna just say this: Those people who are singing praises of the game: Are they going to play along side you, help you out, and be there as you play? Or are you going to be the lowbie tagalong who's not really good at much, and spends a lot of time by himself?

I've done a lot of MMORPG'ing, and I will say this: Unless you a) are good at making friends in MMORPGS(not the same as in a MUSH), or b) already have friends playing who will group with you, then an MMORPG is going to quickly become dull and repetitive, no matter how good it is.

Add the fact that my understanding is that a number of people have left SWG for greener pastures, and it really comes down to these people singing it's praises - will they be there for you?

On a side note, I plan on getting WoW when it comes out, and I'd love having a game buddy.

At least 3 Wooster people have said they want to game with me, and one (my boss) has already cleared bringing me into his guild once I get a character, so that part is taken care of, and I think it'd be OK.

As to WoW...Zug Zug.

It's cliche, but it must be said...

It's a trap!

(And no fighters either? Bah!)

I guess that works....

Most of my word comes from beta testers, media reviewers off-the-record observations and refugees who now reside among the million characters who inhabit Vana'diel.

Fighters and such are in the expansion that (if I recall correctly) comes out in the next 2 months?

We'll see. :D

I've just been slowly building a massive amount of capital with my energy harvesting business. The great thing about SWG is that 'lowbies' aren't really all that inconvienenced.

Get them all to play on Gorath. I can give you guys a little hooking up. DO EET.

Well, I guess I won't be seeing you then. Ah well.

When you play an MMORPG, make sure you have a lot of friends, or you'll quickly get bored.

I, sadly, am more of a solo person in those games because:

1) I refuse to associate with uberl33td00ds.
2) NOBODY ROLEPLAYS.

This is why I went to MUSHing. The pretty statbuilder MUD that MMORPGs consist of are an amusing diversion.

Try it out for a month or two. It's not that expensive, and it can be a great diversion for a while.

Sadly, however, I'm getting far more enjoyment from the MUSHes right now myself.

Some days you feel like a nut...

..But seriously.. I do both, and some days I just feel like one or the other. But there's very little RP going on in an MMOG, which is why I usually drop the 'RP' out of the acronym when I'm talking about them. Not to metion that, for the sake of RP, you would really, really be injuring yourself in the long run if you want to actually get anywhere in the game (this holds true for most MMOGs, I've found) also doesn't help.

Hope you enjoy it... though I've heard the same criticisms from people.

Maybe the hardcores still in the game are suffering from cognitive dissonance?

Anyway, I never could give that much of my time to MMORPGs. Not after spending 3.5 years of my life working on one.

It should be deep into open beta by now.

Master Meatbag, know that you might not be alone. If I get around to getting a new credit card.

I hear good and ill. And I think I'll just have to give it a go. As should you. And I will get me some jedi-goodness. Cause I'm a masochist like that. That, and build a Teras Kasi master.

Mmm, WoW. The first MMORPG to seriously tempt me, with my dialup connection, although that'll change once I move to Canada. Put me on the list too, in all liklihood.
