When I was growing up, my best friend lived next door, and his mom had a bunch of apple trees in their backyard.
Once, when I was 8, we saw an apple on the ground that actually starting rolling towards us. Seth and I were fascinated. It was rolling, it was kinda twitching, and was really neat to a couple 8 year old boys.
Finally it got close enough that we could see /why/ it was rolling. The entire apple was pulsing and writhing under the skin. Yellowjackets and wasps had burrowed in and laid eggs, and those eggs had hatched, and the larvae were coming out, along with young and adolescent wasps and jackets.
We ran like hell for the porch door before we got stung.
Story time.
