Hmm.

Ard's put me on the track of possibly a bad HDD.

Error code 10000050, parameter1 dd8613b7, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 dd8613b7, parameter4 00000000.

This one was from within safe mode.

Hard drive dying...that's entirely possible. Quick, back up your important shit.

Everything except about half my music collection is now on my 'storage' drive, which is much newer (and used for data archive only for just that reason), and the music is all on the iPod anyhow.

Hey, you've got all night, do a thorough scandisk.

And yes to the video card memory. Mine's got 64 MB. And with AGP, it can suck away some of my 768 other MB if it needs without much speed loss.

I'm just thinking that it might be the media the drivers and so on are stored on, not so much the files themselves. If it's connected to accessing a certain drive, that's your culprit, most likely.

Of course, something else freaky could be going on. [livejournal.com profile] zonereyrie has some hairy troubleshooting stories about things like bad ballasts in fluorescent lights and stuff. ;)

Well, yeah, but given the drivers and such are all on the boot HDD, replacing it seems the next step. :D

A fresh install of the OS can do a world of good.

'Nuke and pave over', as Avy might put it.

And as it happens, I'm getting a lightly used 6GB drive for just that.
