Sad and somewhat scary realization:

One of my best friends in HS was a girl named Mollye. Wonderful person. Very caring.

Last I saw her was almost three years ago. She'd been through very hard times. Mom died. Disowned by her dad. About 3 steps away from living on the street. I was doing what I could to help her, but being at Wooster at the time and fairly broke, it wasn't as much as I wanted to.

All my contact points for her have run dry, and I've not seen or heard from her since then, or seen any mutual friends who have gotten word from her, either.

It is entirely possible (and all too likely) that she could be dead.

Scary thing to realize.

Reach out to someone you love. Especially if you haven't seen them in a bit. Ask if you can do something. Tell them how you feel.

You may never get the chance again.

While not as bad as that, I have a friend from High School that's going down the tubes. But nothing like that.

I really should try to take a day and go back to Hardin County and find her.

*nods* I envy the fact that you still know how to reach her. If I could find even a post office box for Mollye...yeah.

A old college friend of mine dropped me an email today out of the blue, telling me he was finally getting over an episode of major depression and starting to reconnect with the world and his friends.

I think I may see if I can arrange to visit him for a couple days.

I'm sure you'd be good for him.

Sometimes, bad things happen to really good people. A classmate of mine -- not someone I was particularly close with, but someone I knew and saw in English class on a daily basis -- became a victim of Florida serial killer Danny Rolling in 1990:

So I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes, when good people hit the skids, or fall victim to predatory people, you end up questioning God and wonder if there's any such thing as divine justice, or even karmic justice.

As Death in Discworld is wont to say when the issue comes up, THERE IS NO JUSTICE. THERE'S ONLY ME.

That's A Very True Message! We Should ALWAYS, ALWAYS Tell Those Close To Us That We Love Them ALL The Time.......Whenever We Can! Because You Never KNOW What Will Happen.......Or WHEN.......

One of my best friends through grade school and high school, who was in my old gaming group the whole time until college, moved to Australia and I lost touch with him. Last year I found out he'd been dead for two years - killed in a car crash.

It came as a total surprise, and hit me all the harder because it had already happened so long ago, relatively speaking. I felt really guilty about losing touch and couldn't bring myself to contact any of the family or his other friends.

That was also the day I found out one of my other best friends in high school had gotten married a year back - and had never invited or informed me. And I still can't find her phone number.

Life just leaves you behind if you don't watch out.
