Aug. 15th, 2004 02:58 pmMmm. Talking to
skarlette was /wonderful./ We talked about a lot, and I feel much better.
Watching Team USA men's basketball was disgusting. They weren't playing with heart. Only Duncan and LeBron looked like they even cared about being there.
They are not representing our country. They look like schoolyard delinquents being forced to play at the YMCA, and they deserved the loss. In fact, if they get knocked out of competition, I'll not shed a tear. They did not go to represent our nation, and do not deserve national honors.
50 Random Things About Me...
1. I've never been on ritalin, but until very recently, I was taking several allergy pills and other drugs daily.
2. I am the oldest in my family, and on my dad's side, only the third male to go to College. (Granda, Dad, and Me.)
3. I rarely remember anything that happens while I'm sleeping.
4. I didn't sleep well after getting the new bed. It seemed too empty.
5. I get a lot of complaints about my poker game because I play slow and cautious. People watch too much TV poker and expect you should be going all in every hand.
6. If I've had a really really bad day, I tend to go and get something to eat. Getting taken care of by a good waiter, to have someone treat me as a customer and take care of me...it helps my mood.
7. My parents couldn't settle on a name until I was almost a week old. My dad was at home while mom and I were in the hospital. He was looking around on the bookshelf, and made their old bible fall off the above shelf and onto his head. Book of Matthew, book of James. There ya go.
8. I love to cook, and to cook for others. I hate the dishes, tho.
9. I like arranging cds/albums. I'd love to do it professionally, but I don't have the talent, I think.
10. I went to Stratford, Canada, for the Shakespeare festival. I really enjoyed it, and would love to go back there.
11. We know that my great-great grandfather was German, but that's it. He didn't speak very much English when he ended up marrying my great-great grandmother, and died less than a year after their son was born.
12. My mother's family can trace their heritage back to the colony ship that they came over on from England.
13. My family is intimately tied to the US Navy. My paternal great grandfather helped design the F4-U Corsair. My granda worked on the F-14 and F-18 (and the F-16 and Saab Vigen, for that matter.) My maternal grandfather was a USN surgeon after he got out of medical school, and did a tour as ship's surgeon on the Decatur during Korea. Two of my cousins served, one as a sonarman on submarines, and one as a gunner's mate.
14. It is difficult to think of 50 random things about myself.
15. I was reading by three, and I had a high school reading level by the time I was in 2nd grade.
16. Mom and dad wouldn't let me read Heinlein until I was 16, because they were worried that some of his more interesting ideas about sexuality would be bad for my development.
17. I love the lakes here. I think it's one of the neater things about our new neighborhood.
18. I shoot pistol well enough that I could qualify as a marksman in the US military, if I were in the service.
19. I could easily spend a day in Borders and not complain one bit.
20. Wheat thins. I love them. Can't explain why.
21. One day, my dad came home with hot dogs, tubes of crescent roll batter, and Herlochers mustard. He spread mustard on the roll batter, then wrapped the hotdogs inside, baked them, and put more mustard on when they came out. Hot dogs have never tasted better, to me. He's never made them again.
22. I miss taking lecture courses. The chance to really talk to your professor means a lot.
23. I love going to sleep with music, but I can't wake up to an alarm if I do.
24. Alex is currently laughing at me when I mentioned I'm doing this because Lisa did. "At least you admit you're whipped."
25. I like notebooks and pens. I was addicted to my Palm, but after a recruiter suggested I use the notebook for the effect on the client, and it worked, I've been hooked.
26. I did well in school until Middle School, where the fairly nasty environment made me really stop caring. As I entered High School, I probably would have coasted out, but my History teacher, Dr. Peet, wouldn't let me. He's responsible for a lot of my success, because he wouldn't let me quit.
27. Lisa is probably the most serious relationship I've had.
28. I love looking around stores, as long as they have something interesting.
29. We've been watching a lot of very eclectic stuff since we got the Tivo. It's fun.
30. I seem to keep collecting copies of Snow Crash.
31. When I'm happy, I get sleepy.
32. I really like suits and elegant clothes, but I can't afford them. And casual dress works better for a lot of my lifestyle.
33. I love thunder/lightning storms and have been known to go out to play in the rain.
34. I type very quickly, but I've never had it measured.
35. I do miss Wooster, sometimes, but it's a lot more comfortable to live here, and more convenient.
36. I like sometimes just taking an afternoon and reading
37. I love when Lisa gets blushy, or when she smiles. Her entire face lights up. It's incredible.
38. I am a cuddleslut.
39. My favorite colours are dark greens, blues, and greys.
40. I don't like Kerry that much, but he beats the alternative.
41. I use poker as a stress relief.
42. My first internet handle was -=CyberFreak=-, at a Doctor Who BBS. My first internet ID was NNDD40B@Prodigy.net
43. I had a few poems published in middle and high school.
44. I am allergic to pollens, grasses, and damn near everything, but the shots have basically eliminated the inhalers, pills, and ventilators I had to take.
45. I love being able to do things for people. The problem is that I often risk myself in the balance.
46. I dyed my hair a brilliant silver color for Brigadoon, Senior year of High School. I wanted to leave it that way, but my parents objected.
47. If I could smoke safely, without damage to my singing voice or cancer, I'd smoke a pipe.
48. I'm starting to enjoy singing again.
49. I miss people from my old neighborhood, when we were all kids.
50. I'm still losing weight. I'm really proud of that. I bought that new belt? And I had to put a bunch of holes in it because it was too loose.
