Things old are new again.
Aug. 30th, 2004 03:08 pmLisa found an X-men place she wants to play at with me, after she got her feet wet there, so I'm prepping a character for after I get my PC (one way or another) back.
For once, I'm even doing an OC, and I'm actually pretty excited about it. Lisa and I worked out the background together, and I'm letting her write the desc, since she's much better at that than I am. (And of course, I left it at home...)
But...here we are. I'm just hoping that things stay calm enough that I can play. :D (And that it doesn't end up losing to CoH, once I get that back!)
IC INFO:

1. Your character's full name: Aiden St. John Townsend
2. A code name, if applicable: Boost
3. Character's Age: 16 (almost 17)
4. Character's Description: Aiden St. John Townsend: Standing 5'11" with a leanly muscular, wiry build, Aidan deffinately is striking enough to turn heads. His face is narrow, rakishly handsome and set with high, austerely prominent cheekbones, an almost hawkish nose and thin, yet mobile lips that tend to always be turned into a slightly ironic smile. It's his eyes that catch you though, being wide, gleaming with wicked wit and humour and shaded by long, thick, black lashes. The irises are an intense, artic blue rimmed with a thin ring of midnight blue. Thick, straight, blue-black hair spills to his shoulders setting off his smooth, pallid skin and matching the brows slanting above his eyes.
5. Type of Character (FC/OC): OC
6. Character Background: (Done with the approval of Alexandra’s player.)
Born in London, Aiden’s parents were comfortably middle class, his father a criminal law barrister who worked more hours than he spent at home, with occasional boosts from his mother’s jewelry business. (Having a pearl necklace purchased by Diana shortly before the divorce didn’t hurt, either!) However, Aiden’s main passions had very little to do with anything his parents were involved in. From a very early age, he was addicted to Football (or Soccer, if we’re going to be vulgar), and he was fairly heavily devoted to it. His parents encouraged it, because it was a good way for him to get exercise and meet friends, and he quickly became a regular sight on the juniors’ pitch.
However, after he hit puberty, he found himself a bit of a puzzle. Workouts and games that left his teammates sweating, exhausted, and sore usually only had him a bit winded and ready for more, with far less fatigue. His coaches put it down to a natural talent, encouraging him to think about going professional, and scouts from some of the level II and III clubs began to come down to get a look at him, especially as he entered his O levels. He trained harder, and just kept trying to push himself without really finding a limit. His parents got an offer to send him to a boarding school in Scotland where the football coach said Aiden could be turned into the next Beckham or Freddy Adu. Aiden wanted to go, and so his parents agreed, imagining their son as the next big Footballer.
At one of his games, things…changed. His need to push himself had generated something that he couldn’t explain. He was faster than he’d ever been. Stronger. Sharper. He’d moved faster than the ball, and turned a 0-1 losing game into a 3-1 victory in something like five minutes, singlehandedly. It was exhilarating, but at the same time, utterly terrifying. What he’d done was beyond normal, beyond human, and he knew it. He didn’t stay for the cheers, or the celebrations. He ran. Ran like hell. Ran forever.
After he’d cleared nearly a mile, he suddenly collapsed, feeling suddenly weak and incredibly hungry. Ravenous and in pain, he had no idea what to do until another student found him. They’d been dating before, and she’d always seemed to have something odd about her, but she’d never explained it. Now, with a touch, she eased the jagged pain and got him to where he could get food and rest, before explaining just what it meant to be a mutant.
It was mad. Insane. But at the same time, it was the only way to explain what had happened to him. She explained that others were out there, and how he’d need to try to hold himself back if he still wanted to play, but there was nothing to be scared of. After awhile, he even started to believe it.
Her name was Alexandra MacVei, and not terribly long after, she left for America. He hasn’t seen her since, but a regular chain of letters back and forth has kept him aware of what’s going on in her life. And when he found out that there was an exchange student opening, he leapt for it with both hands.
Heading to Bayville, he’s looking forward to showing the Yanks a bit of proper football, seeing Alexandra again, and as long as he keeps his powers in check…getting a chance to play for an MLS team before going back to England could be fairly cool, right?
------------------------------------
1. Psyche/Personality Profile:
(Include the good and the bad. Everyone has flaws as well as features.)
While he’s fairly good natured off the field, Aiden certainly has a competitive streak. Winning isn’t everything, but it’s pretty damn close. However, he also wants to win as fairly as possible, which is why he tries very hard /not/ to use his powers unless absolutely needed. He’s very proud of his natural skills, to the point of vanity, and doesn’t like losing at all. He can also be very shy about some of his other skills. He can write some half decent poetry and stories, but that doesn’t seem like something a big footballer should be doing, so he hides them under his bed. He also tends to be very self-confident, but if he fails at something that he thinks he is one of the best at, it can take awhile to get that confidence back. He also has a fixation with winning /fairly/. He keeps his powers as suppressed as he can while playing because he doesn’t want to win because he’s a mutant or because he cheated. He wants to win because he’s earned it.
That same drive also leads him to exercise and work out quite a bit, and he tends to be most comfortable with people who might not necessarily be athletes, but they do have that same sort of desire to push things. If you’re just slacking and laying about, he doesn’t have much interest in you. In terms of religion, he leans towards the pagan side of Agnostic, and while he won't complain if you want to put a name to God(s), he tends to have a fairly detatched view of things. (His pagan leanings come mainly from the fact that he can't imagine a single being as responsible for creating /everything./ It's just too big of a job.)
2. Skills/Abilities:
(Skills and Abilities are skills outside of powers. Can they Juggle?
Master Chef? Poker King?)
Football/Soccer! He’s been playing the game since he was very young, and it shows. Even if he wasn’t a mutant, he would still be very talented and might just have a shot at going pro. He can play a bit of the drums (an attempt by his parents to find him another hobby), and does write decently, but as I mentioned, he’s never shown it to anyone. He’s completed the equivalent of a Sophomore’s year in High School, and his best subject so far has been chemistry. He also has a student driving permit from England, but isn’t sure he wants to try and learn the differences in American roads.
He’s quite into physical training, so he is fairly experienced in how to help someone do personal conditioning and a bit about diet (even if he doesn’t always take his own advice…), and can certainly participate in most track sports.
3. Powers (If applicable):
(Be as detailed as possible here. If your powers have sub powers, (IE The
effects if any on your character or others) Include limitations and
flaws.)
Aiden’s powers have two levels: passive and active. So, let’s start with passive.
In their passive form, his (and someone spending a good bit of time with him in a close radius (less than four feet) will temporarily be effected as well) muscles work at a higher endurance level. Lactic acids are produced much slower, and the ‘burn’ effect takes far longer to set in. Physical effort seems a bit easier, or a bit less tiring, but nothing exceptional. Anyone who is affected by him would feel the effects for at most a half hour, and then end up feeling a bit hungrier than normal. (His own metabolism is at a higher rate because of this, which he solves by snacking six to eight times a day, at least.)
The reason for this improved endurance vs. activity is because of his ‘active’ level of powers. At first caused by moments of heavy physical stress, he’s learned how to activate it by will, and is starting to learn how to affect another individual instead of himself. The ‘boost’ power pushes a person’s muscles to their top levels of physical activity and power. This sounds like an instant recipe for super strength, but it isn’t. Someone with well developed muscles will get a far greater benefit for this than the classic 98 pound weakling. Plus, since his abilities don’t affect bone structure, anyone trying to lift a car while ‘boosted’ will be quite disappointed when their forearms snap!
What it can do is still fairly significant. That 98 pound weakling might not be able to lift a car, but he would find himself able to lift 150 pounds pretty easily, or run much faster and farther than before. A trained sprinter might find themselves able to hit fifty or sixty miles an hour. In Aiden’s case, his already excellent physical condition turns him into a world-class athlete, able to move at very increased speeds (30-45 miles an hour easily), lift two or three hundred pounds, and perform consistently at a very high level of endurance until his powers wear off.
However, the drawback comes when it does wear off. Depending on how much activity the boosted person undertook, that level of performance will at the least cause their metabolism to scream for nutrition (including burning the body’s fat reserves). Hunger pangs will be physically painful, and it won’t stop until they’ve eaten a good bit of protein, potassium, etx to regain some balance in their system. (After his first boosting, Aiden drank 4 gallons of Gatorade, 2 bags of jerky, a bunch of bananas, and a bag of potato crisps like they were going to nuke the factory in five minutes.) In a higher-demand case of boosting, especially where extreme physical effort was involved, the person will lapse into a short-term coma (anywhere from six to twenty four hours), and while they won’t wake up ravenous, they will feel the urge to eat fairly strongly.

(N/A)
5. Technology and Resources:
Aiden’s living with a host family, who have already been pretty surprised by his appetite! In terms of resources, he has a decent (but not excessive) allowance that his parents put into a bank account for him, and in a pinch he can get more if there is a good reason. His technology basically comes down to a Dell laptop that he uses for school work and to do planning for games and his own workouts, but nothing exceptional. He also has several sets of fairly expensive football shoes and cleats, and if he sees Adidas or Nike bring out a new one, that’s the sort of impulse buy he’s likely to make.
6. Plans for your character
Learning to do more with his powers (longer effect time on himself or others, being able to affect more than one person at a time, perhaps being able to reverse the boost effect on someone by limiting their bodies to minimum output?), meeting back up with Alexandra (and probably learning about the rather large mutant population in Bayville to boot), and hopefully getting an in-game soccer team going! Plus, at some point, getting the chance to try out for a minor or major league soccer team, while it might lead to having to take the character out of game circulation, would be one of his big goals. (And hey, if he tried and was told he needed to come back when he was a bit older or that he wasn’t good enough, that’d be a pretty good RP hook…)
7. If your character is a non Standard EvoVerse FC, Where are they from?
(IE, Spiderman, Fantastic Four, etc) How do you plan to adapt them to the
Evo theme? N/A
8. Any other Info you feel would be important:

Date: 2004-08-30 01:17 pm (UTC)As for the MoBo, there's always Fry's. Their prices are actually not bad, and sometimes they have a decent sale where the processor is thrown in. As long as you realize that doesn't include the processor fan (which, of course, I didn't),and make sure to buy one of those at the same time, it's a pretty good deal. I spent less than $200 for my last MoBo/processor (adding in what I spent extra for the fan). Granted, it wasn't a blazing fast processor, but 1.2 GHz is fast enough for what I need it to do.

Date: 2004-08-30 01:27 pm (UTC)There isn't a Fry's out here, but I know some good stores both online and in the area. It's just that if I have to replace the motherboard AGAIN (this will be my 2nd in 3 years), I might as well put some thought into a total rebuild.
